Racine earns 900th career win as No. 7 UWF women's tennis defeats No. 15 UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. –
University of West Florida tennis head coach Derrick Racine earned his 900th career win on the road Tuesday afternoon as the No. 7 West Florida women's tennis team defeated No. 15 UC San Diego 7-2. West Florida (7-1, 4-0 GSC) earns its fifth straight win and its fourth win over a ranked opponent this season.
 
Racine has won 747 matches as the head coach for both the West Florida men's and women's tennis programs and won 153 matches when he was the head coach of both teams at the University of Mobile.
 
"This is just a testament to all the success that our players have had over the years I have coached at UWF," Racine said. "I'm very fortunate to be around these student-athletes. I love my job. I love what I am able to do everyday and I love being involved with these kids lives and watching them compete every day."
 
Racine is a five-time ITA National Coach of the Year and has been named the ITA South Region Coach of the Year 11 times. He has earned 21 Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year honors and has led his teams to 25 conference titles.
 
"The Argo family is a very tight group," Racine said. "I'm very fortunate to stay in touch with all of the former players. They all stay involved in the program and want to see the teams do well. Our current players feel the support and tradition that the players before them have created."
 
The No. 10-ranked doubles team of seniors Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) fell at number one doubles 3-8 to the No. 14-ranked doubles team of Kyra Scott and Britta Mosser. With the win, Faure earned her 30th career doubles victory.
 
Junior Nina Bubelova (Pova'sk' Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) won 8-3 at number two doubles while senior Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) and junior Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) fell at number three doubles by a score of 3-8.
 
No. 4 Kochanova defeated No. 22 Scott 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 6-1 at number one singles while Faure won 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 at number two singles. Bubelova won at number three singles 6-4, 7-5 while Amaral won 6-4, 6-4 at number four singles.
 
Flores won at number five singles 6-0, 6-3 while Fanchin won 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 at number six singles.
 
West Florida will continue the season on the road by facing No. 22 Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego, California on Wednesday, March 11 at 12 p.m. PT. UWF will wrap up the road trip by facing No. 6 Hawaii Pacific on Friday, March 13 in La Jolla, California at 9 a.m. PT.
