PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 7-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team defeated No. 18 Midwestern State 7-2 at home on Tuesday afternoon. West Florida (8-2, 4-0 GSC) has now won 19 consecutive home matches against Division-II opponents.
The No. 10-ranked doubles team of seniors
Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and
Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) won 8-3 at number one doubles and improve to 1-1 against regionally ranked opponents.
Junior
Nina Bubelova (Pova'sk' Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior
Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) won 8-5 at number two doubles while senior
Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) and junior
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) won 8-6 at number three doubles.
No. 4 Kochanova fell to No. 16 Kayla Casey 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 at number one singles and falls to to 2-2 on the year against nationally ranked opponents.
Faure won at number two singles 6-1, 6-0 and improves to 2-1 against regionally ranked opponents en route to earning her 20
th career singles victory.
Bubelova fell at number three singles 6-4, 6-4 while Dikosavljevic won 6-4, 6-4 at number four singles.
Amaral won at number five singles 6-4, 6-0 while junior
Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) won 6-4, 6-4 at number six singles.
West Florida will next face No. 8 Saint Leo on Wednesday, March 18 at 1 p.m. CT before facing No. 21 Northeastern State on Thursday, March 19 at 1 p.m. CT. West Florida will then face No. 20 Georgia College on Friday, March 20 at 9:30 a.m. CT.
