PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 7-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team defeated No. 3 Saint Leo 5-4 at home on Wednesday afternoon. West Florida (9-2, 4-0 GSC) improves to 6-0 in matches against teams in the south region en route to extending its home winning streak against Division-II opponents to 20.
The No. 10-ranked doubles team of seniors
Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and
Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) won at number one doubles 8-1 while junior
Nina Bubelova (Pova'sk' Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior
Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) won 8-2 at number two doubles.
Senior
Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) and junior
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) fell at number three doubles by a score of 8-4.
Faure won at number one singles 6-0, 6-4 and improves to 3-1 on the year against regionally ranked opponents en route to her eighth consecutive singles win. No. 4 Kochanova won at number two singles 7-5, 7-6 and improves to 3-2 on the year against regionally ranked opponents.
Bubelova clinched the match at number three singles with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 win while Dikosavljevic fell at number four singles 7-5, 6-0.
Amaral fell in a close match at number five singles 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 while junior
Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) fell at number six singles 6-4, 6-2.
West Florida will next face No. 21 Northeastern State on Thursday, March 19 at 1 p.m. CT before facing No. 20 Georgia College on Friday, March 20 at 9:30 a.m. CT.
