No. 7 West Florida women's tennis defeats No. 21 Northeastern State 8-1

UWF women’s tennis team improves to 7-2 against regionally ranked opponents on the year

Monika Kochanova notches her 50th career doubles victory on Thursday.

PENSACOLA, Fla. –
The No. 7-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team defeated No. 21 Northeastern State 8-1 at home on Thursday afternoon. West Florida (10-2, 4-0 GSC) earns its sixth win over a team ranked in the top 25 en route to extending its home winning streak against Division-II opponents to 21.
 
The No. 10-ranked doubles team of seniors Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) won at number one doubles 8-1 and improve to 2-1 on the year against regionally ranked opponents. With the win, Kochanova notches her 50th career doubles victory.
 
Junior Nina Bubelova (Pova'sk' Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) won 8-6 at number two doubles while junior Lisa May (Oviedo, Fla.) and sophomore Heather May Walton (Winter Park, Fla.) won 8-6 at number three doubles.
 
Faure defeated No. 17 Kristina Savchenkov at number one singles 6-2, 6-2 and improves to 1-1 against nationally ranked opponents. Faure is now 4-1 against regionally ranked opponents and extends her winning streak to nine.
 
No. 4 Kochanova won 6-4, 7-6 at number two singles to improve her record against regionally ranked opponents to 4-2.
 
Bubelova won at number three singles 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 3-0 on the year against regionally ranked opponents.
 
Dikosavljevic won 6-2, 6-3 at number four singles to improve to 3-2 on the year against regionally ranked opponents.
 
Amaral won 6-3, 6-0 at number five singles while freshman Erica Lilja Eriksson (Kristinehamn, Sweden) lost a close match at number six singles 6-4, 6-7, 10-8.
 
West Florida will next face No. 20 Georgia College on Friday, March 20 at 9:30 a.m. CT.
