PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 7-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team defeated No. 26 Georgia College at home on Friday afternoon. West Florida (11-2, 4-0 GSC) extends its home winning streak against Division-II opponents to 22.
The No. 10-ranked doubles team of seniors
Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and
Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) won at number one doubles 8-5 while junior
Nina Bubelova (Pova'sk' Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior
Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) won 9-8 at number two doubles. With the win, Amaral notches her 60th career doubles victory.
Juniors
Lisa May (Oviedo, Fla.) and
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) fell at number three doubles by a score of 8-5.
Faure won at number one singles 6-1, 6-0 and improves to 5-1 against regionally ranked opponents en route to her 10th consecutive singles win.
No. 4 Kochanova won 6-0, 6-1 at number two singles and improves to 5-2 against regionally ranked opponents while Dikosavljevic won 6-1, 6-0 at number three singles.
Bubelova won at number four singles 5-7, 6-1, 10-6 while Amaral won 7-5, 6-3 at number five singles en route to the senior's 50th career singles victory.
Junior
Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) fell at number six singles 6-4, 6-3.
West Florida will next play host to West Alabama on Tuesday, March 24 at 1 p.m. CT before facing Alabama Huntsville on Thursday, March 26 at 10 a.m. CT. UWF will then face West Georgia on Friday, March 27 at 9 a.m. CT before facing No. 4 BYU-Hawaii later that day at 12:30 p.m. CT.
West Florida will then face No. 45 Florida Southern on Saturday, March 28 at 9 a.m. CT. The Argos will wrap up the week with a pair of matches on Sunday, March 29 as UWF faces Delta State at 9 a.m. CT and Christian Brothers at 1 p.m. CT.
