ROME, Ga. – The No. 7-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team defeated No. 34 Shorter 8-1 on the road Friday afternoon. West Florida (5-1, 3-0) wins its 45th consecutive Gulf South Conference match with the victory over Shorter.
The No. 10-ranked doubles team of seniors
Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and
Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) fell at number one doubles 4-8 while junior
Nina Bubelova (Pova'sk' Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior
Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) won 8-5 at number two doubles.
Senior
Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) and junior
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) won at number three doubles by a score of 8-3.
No. 4 Kochanova won 6-3, 6-3 at number one singles en route to her 35th career singles victory while Faure won at number two singles by a score of 6-2, 7-5. Bubelova won 6-4, 6-2 at number three singles while Dikosavljevic won at number four singles 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.
Amaral won 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 at number five singles en route to her 45th career singles victory while junior
Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) swept her opponent at number six singles 6-0, 6-0.
West Florida will continue the season on the road Saturday, March 7 as they face GSC opponent Lee at 9 a.m. ET.
