CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The No. 7-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team defeated Lee on the road Saturday afternoon. West Florida (6-1, 4-0 GSC) wins its 46th consecutive Gulf South Conference match with the victory over Lee.
The No. 10-ranked doubles team of seniors
Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and
Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) won at number one doubles 8-3 while junior
Nina Bubelova (Pova'sk' Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior
Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) won 8-4 at number two doubles.
Senior
Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) and junior
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) won decicively at number three doubles by a score of 8-0.
Faure swept her opponent at number one singles 6-0, 6-0 while Bubelova won her 30th career singles match by a score of 6-2, 6-0 at number two singles. Dikosavljevic swept her opponent at number three singles 6-0, 6-0 while Amaral won at number four singles 6-1, 6-1.
Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) won 6-1, 6-1 at number five singles while Fanchin swept her opponent at number six singles 6-0, 6-0.
West Florida will continue the season on the road next week by facing a trio of ranked opponents in California. UWF will face No. 15 UC San Diego on Tuesday, March 10 in La Jolla, California at 2 p.m. PT before facing No. 22 Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego, California on Wednesday, March 11 at 12 p.m. PT.
West Florida will wrap up the road trip by facing No. 6 Hawaii Pacific on Friday, March 13 in La Jolla, California at 9 a.m. PT.
