PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 8-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team defeated No. 26 Concordia (N.Y.) 8-1 at home on Thursday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. West Florida (19-3, 9-0 GSC) improves to 7-3 against nationally ranked opponents en route to the team's sixth straight win.
West Florida's No. 16-ranked doubles team of seniors
Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and
Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) defeated Concordia's No. 5-ranked doubles team of Costanza Mecchi and Romana Tabak 8-1 at number one doubles. Faure and Kochanova earn their second straight win over a nationally ranked opponent en route to the duo's fifth straight win.
Junior
Nina Bubelova (Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior
Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) won 8-2 at number two doubles while senior
Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore
Heather May Walton (Winter Park, Fla.) fell at number two doubles 6-8.
Faure defeated No. 5 Tabak 6-1, 6-3 at number one singles and improves to 4-2 on the year against nationally ranked opponents. Junior
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) defeated No. 28 Mecchi at number two singles 7-5, 6-3 and earns her first win of the season against a nationally ranked opponent.
No. 18 Kochanova swept her opponent at number three singles 6-0, 6-0 while Bubelova won her eighth straight singles match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number four singles.
Amaral won at number five singles 6-3, 7-5 en route to the senior's first win of the season over a regionally ranked opponent while Fanchin won at number six singles 6-4, 7-5.
West Florida will next face Mississippi College on Saturday, April 4 at 9 a.m. CT before facing Georgia Gwinnett at 3 p.m. CT later that day. The Argonauts will wrap up the regular season at home on Saturday, April 11 by facing NAIA opponent Xavier (La.) at 10 a.m. CT.
