PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida baseball team swept a doubleheader against Mississippi College, winning game one 5-2 and game two 3-2. A pair of Pensacola natives pitched gems in the Argonauts victories.
"We had a good outing from
Brandon Nagem again," UWF coach
Mike Jeffcoat said. "Then,
Josh McLaney was able to close it out in the first game. In the second game, we got to their lefty in the first inning, and
Alex Stevens threw a great game. He just made one mistake in the top of the seventh."
The Argonauts (21-12, 14-9) totaled 20 hits in the two games, and UWF pitchers held the Choctaws (11-23, 3-19) to nine hits with zero walks in the wins.
"I thought we came out with good intensity today," Jeffcoat said. "We had a bunch of hits, even though we weren't able to put a lot of them together at times. We got two wins, but we were in this position last week. We've got to come back out with the same intensity and close it out tomorrow."
