BOX SCORE PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 4-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team fell to No. 7-ranked Lynn in the NCAA Division II South Regional championship match on Monday afternoon at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. West Florida ends the season with a 25-4 overall record.
"This isn't the way we wanted to end our season but looking back on the year we had a great season," head coach
Derrick Racine said. "The girls fought hard all year. Every match we seemed to get better. They bonded as a team. It was a really close group of girls that fought really hard for each other. They have a lot to be proud of. They really came together as a team this season and that's what it is all about."
West Florida's No. 8-ranked doubles team of seniors
Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and
Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) defeated Lynn's No. 6-ranked doubles team of Vale Confalonieri and Rosalie Willig 8-4 at number one doubles.
Senior
Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) and junior
Nina Bubelova (Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia) fought back to earn their 11
th consecutive doubles victory over Alina Jane and Carolina Cuevas by a score of 9-8 (7-3) at number two doubles.
Juniors
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) and
Giovana Patitucci (Sao Paulo, Brazil) fell to Martina Gledacheva and Grace Mpassy 3-8 at number three doubles.
No. 8 Faure defeated No. 2 Confalonieri 6-2, 6-2 at number one singles while No. 19 Kochanova fell to No. 28 Willig 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 at number two singles.
Dikosavljevic defeated Cuevas 6-1, 6-4 at number three singles while Bubelova fell to Jane at number four singles 6-3, 6-3.
Amaral fell to Gledacheva 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at number five singles while junior
Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) fell to Mpassy 6-1, 6-1 at number six singles.
