PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 20-ranked University of West Florida volleyball team swept West Alabama 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-12) to open Gulf South Conference play at home on Friday night. West Florida improves to 7-2 on the year and extends its winning streak against UWA to 13.
"I think it was a good 3-0 win on the first night of conference play," head coach
Melissa Wolter said. "I think West Alabama is a very good team, I thought they had an excellent game plan and they really caught us off guard in that first set. I was pleased that we were able to play well at the end of that first set. I felt like after the first set I thought we started getting back into what our game plan was and I thought we played very well in the second and third set."
With the win, Wolter tallies her 299
th win as head coach at West Florida. Wolter earned her 300th career during the 2013 season, and has a 335-157 career record between UWF and Wisconsin-Parkside.

Autumn Duyn (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) led the Argonauts offensively with 12 kills at .400 clip. Junior
Cora Bidlack (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) was efficient on the offensive end with eight kills at a .571 clip and also had four blocks.

Tori Martella (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence HS) led the team with 16 digs while sophomore
Monique StCyr (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown HS) tallied 28 assists and three service aces in the win, including back to back service aces to start the third set.
Junior
Kathryn Torre (Highland, Ill./State College of Florida) tallied a team-high five blocks including a pair of solo blocks.
West Florida tallied a .337 team attacking percentage in the win and had an impressive .591 attacking percentage in the second set.
UWF will host GSC opponent West Georgia tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT before facing south region opponent Spring Hill at 6 p.m. CT.
