PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 25-ranked University of West Florida men's soccer team heads to the National Assocation of Intercollegiate Athletics' University of Mobile on Monday. The contest against the Rams is the last game before West Florida begins its conference schedule, as the Argos are set to square off against Union (Tenn.) on Friday, September 25
th, and No. 13 Christian Brothers on Sunday, September 27
th.
Spreading the wealth
The Argonauts are currently undefeated on the season, standing at a record of 4-0 and outscoring its opponents, 9-4. Freshman
Stephen Enderlin leads the Argonuats in scoring, having recorded three goals for six points on the young season. Senior
Felipe Oliveira (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway HS) has contributed a goal and a team-high three assists, while junior
Marteinn Urbancic (Reykjavik, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) has added two assists and scored his first goal of the season on Thursday night against Spring Hill, a tally that would seal the win for the Argonauts in double-overtime. Of the nine goals scored this season, the Argos currently have seven different goal scorers.
Sophomore
Jacob Murray (West Palm Beach, Fla./Seminole Ridge HS) and junior
Andre Moreira (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Colegio de A a Z) have split time in the Argonauts net through four games. Murray has posted shutouts in both games he has played; having saved all three shots on goal he has been faced with. Moreira owns a 2-0 record in net and has acquired 12 saves and allowed four goals on 30 shots faced.
First impressions
West Florida men's soccer is currently the owner of back-to-back Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week awards, with
Stephen Enderlin being the recipient of the most recent honor, and freshman
Kameron Bethell (Navarre, Fla./Navarre HS) earning the first GSC Freshman of the Week award of the season. On the backline, freshman
Michael Starkey (Huddersfield, England/Newsome HS) has played valuable minutes, having started three games and playing in all 100 minutes of the Argonauts' double overtime win and shutout against Spring Hill.
Scouting Mobile
Mobile has gotten off to a 6-2 start to the season thus far, most recently defeating Thomas University 3-2. Newton Henry, who has six goals and two assists thus far for Mobile, currently leads the Rams in scoring. Pierre Mangold has contributed four goals and two assists to help pace the Rams offense with Henry in the early goings of the 2015 season. The Argonauts have been victorious against the Rams in four of the last six meetings.
