The game against Lee is set to start at 5 p.m. on Friday, and the match with Shorter will begin at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
Fans in attendance on Friday can be a part of a free UWF magnet giveaway, and the Argos will celebrate Argie's Kids Club Day on Sunday afternoon.
Excellent All Around
UWF has performed admirably on both sides of the ball in the season's first eight games, getting dominant performances in several areas. Thus far, the Argos have more than tripled the amount of goals opponents have scored, and tripled the opposition's amount of total shots and shots on goal.
The strong attack has led to UWF scoring 2.75 goals per game, good for 29th in all of Division II. The Argos also have top-30 national rankings in total goals, total assists and total points, out of 240 teams.
The UWF defense has been just as impressive to start the year, allowing just six goals in eight games. The team's 0.75 goals against average ranks as the best in the Gulf South Conference, and UWF's 49 total shots allowed are the fewest in the conference. Over UWF's last four games, the Argonaut defense has held opponents to just 11 total shots.
Strong Goalkeeping
Strong play in both the midfield and the back line has kept pressure off of the goalkeepers. Freshman keeper
Ana Chumik has posted the second-best GAA in the GSC during her time in goal. She has allowed just five goals in seven games and shut out Christian Brothers last weekend after facing just one shot during the whole game.
Conference Leaders
Several Argonauts hold a top 10 statistical ranking in the GSC after a month of play.
Daryl Bell ranks second in the conference in shots, fifth in points, tied for fifth in goals, tied for second in assists, and leads the GSC with three game-winning goals. Tampa transfers
Kaley Ward and
Amber Pennybaker have also made their marks early in the year, with Ward ranking third in goals and fourth in points, and Pennybaker holding spots just outside the top 10 in points and goals scored.
Scouting Lee and Shorter
GSC foes Lee and Shorter will head to Pensacola this weekend for games on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, respectively.
Lee was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the GSC coaches poll, garnering all 10 possible first-place votes. A rigorous schedule has left the Flames with a 3-3-2 record after the first month of play, with all three losses coming against then-ranked opponents: No. 2 Rollins, No. 5 Columbus State and No. 14 North Alabama.
Through eight games, Shorter ranks in the middle of the conference in both goals scored and goals allowed. Jen Rogers has been the leading attacker for the Hawks this season, as she's tallied four goals and one assist in just five games.
UWF is a combined 7-0 all-time against Lee and Shorter.
