PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida swimming and diving team will continue its season on Friday afternoon with a double-dual meet against first-year programs, in Keiser and Loyola New Orleans. The meet will begin at 5 p.m. in the UWF Aquatic Center.
UWF is coming off a double-dual two weeks ago at Alabama against the Crimson Tide and Vanderbilt. West Florida saw several student-athletes record top-five finishes against the DI competition, including a win in the 3-meter diving event from
Monica Amaral. Amaral broke her own school record in the event and has won every 3-meter event she has participated in since the 2015 NCAA DII Championships.
The senior from Rio de Janeiro also finished third in the 1-meter diving event at the meet, while national champion in the 100 Breast
Theresa Michalak took a bronze finish in that same event on Friday, coming in at 1:05.04. She came in second in the 200 Breast, finishing at 2:21.61. That time in the 200 ranks fourth all-time in UWF program history and is the fastest for Michalak since joining the team in January 2016. Michalak wrapped up the day with a third-place finish in the 200 IM, clocking a 2:09.96.
Junior
Madeline Pitt took a third-place finish in the 1000 Free with a 10:29.15 to give West Florida its first third-place finish of the day, and freshman
Taby Read-Cayton swam the 50 Free in 24.57, just .05 seconds from a fifth-place finish.
Loyola New Orleans has competed in each of the last two weeks, against Hendrix and Centenary on September 30 to open the schedule in their inaugural seasons and against LSU last Saturday at home. The Wolf Pack will bring both the men's and women's teams, which feature the reigning Mid-South Conference Swimmers of the Week – freshmen Warren Massimini and Paige Carter. Each of those swimmers turned in an NAIA A-cut time at the meet against LSU last week.
Keiser is fresh off its first meet in program history at the All-Florida Invitational in late September. Freshman Savannah Bowser qualified for the NAIA National Meet in the 1650 Free (18:45.85) and the 200 Free (2:01.85), while fellow freshman Casey Knowles qualified in the 100 Fly (1:00.83) and the 200 IM (2:13.90).
The men's teams for Keiser and Loyola New Orleans will also compete in the meet.
