PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida will shake up the schedule a little bit and play on Thursday and Saturday to conclude the regular season against Mississippi College and Delta State. The game against MC on Thursday will begin at 1 p.m., and the Saturday match against Delta State will start at 11 a.m. from Cleveland, Mississippi.

The Gulf South Conference Tournament will begin with the first round on Tuesday, and semifinal and final games will take place on Friday and Sunday from the host site. West Florida has clinched a first-round bye and will not play until Friday.

In the Rankings
  • Despite having top 15 national marks in scoring offense, shutout percentage, points per game, total points, total goals and total assists, not allowing a goal in the month of October, recording seven consecutive shutouts and holding a lead in the Gulf South Conference with a perfect 10-0 record, UWF was ranked sixth in the latest NCAA South Region rankings on Wednesday.
  • The winners of the GSC and the Sunshine State Conference tournaments earn automatic bids into the NCAA Tournament, leaving four at-large bids available for the remaining teams.

Helgadottir's Helpers
  • Senior midfielder Sara Helgadottir was a major offensive threat against Valdosta State and West Georgia, earning conference player of the week honors at the end of September. The native of Grindavik, Iceland, tallied five assists over the two games, with three coming against VSU and the other two in the game against UWG.
  • Helgadottir now ranks fifth all-time in the UWF record books with 29 career assists.
  • She ranks fourth in DII in assists per game (0.69) and assists (11).
  • Her efforts against Valdosta State marked the sixth game in the senior's career with a goal and an assist.
  • The senior has recorded an assist in each of her last four games and in five of her last six.

UWF Career Assists Record

1. 41 - Tawni Davis (1998-01)
2. 35 - Chelsea Palmer (2012-13)
3. 34 - Dernelle Mascall (2007-09)

Since We Allowed Our Last Goal
  • A lot has changed since UWF last allowed a goal on September 28. In case you've missed anything, here are a few updates since that time.
  • Locally, West Florida has gone 5-0 in Gulf South Conference play and outscored opponents 21-0 over seven games.
  • The Maldives left the Commonwealth of Nations, which is primarily made up of countries that were part of the British Empire, on October 13.
  • On October 4, two 1990s music icons, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Vanilla Ice, were eliminated from Dancing With the Stars. Additionally, Maureen McCormick, known as Marcia Brady from The Brady Bunch, was eliminated from the show on October 24.
  • Two paintings by Vincent Van Gogh paintings that were stolen in 2002 were recovered on September 30 in Amesterdam. Those paintings are estimated to be worth a combined $100 million.

We Love to Help
  • UWF ranks fifth in DII in total assists, getting great help from freshman Marjorie Boilesen, who ranks 2nd in the country with 13 assists, and senior midfielder Sara Helgadottir, who has 11 on the year and ranks fifth all-time in UWF history with 28 career assists.

Wow, This Defense
  • West Florida ranks third in the country in shutout percentage, recording clean sheets in 12 of the team's 16 games (75 percent). The only teams with more shutouts this year are No. 2 Grand Valley (14) and No. 4 Central Missouri (14).
  • The Argos' .63 goals against average is second-best in the conference, but may be a bit misleading. Lee, which leads the Gulf South Conference with a .40 GAA, has a still-impressive nine shutouts on the year, giving UWF a full three games more of shutout soccer.
  • UWF has not allowed a goal in conference play, which has been done just twice in GSC history.  The first time was in 1997, when Lincoln Memorial went 4-0-1 in conference play and outscored opponents 14-0. Three years later, Christian Brothers went 8-0 with 41 goals and none allowed.
  • UWF has played 654 consecutive shutout minutes of defense, which puts the team in GSC record book at the 8th-longest such streak in league history. UWF is currently tied with the 2005 West Florida team for 8th all-time in GSC history in the category.
  • West Florida holds seven of the 11 longest shutout streaks in the history of the conference.
  •  UWF has allowed just 19 total shots across its last six games, including a complete shutout against Shorter, in which the Hawks did not get off a shot.
  • Current UWF goalkeeper Katelyn Burkhart ranks fifth in DII in GAA at .34, which would rank third in GSC history. Her career GAA of 0.55 would rank second in GSC history.

Scouting MC
  • Mississippi College boasts a strong defense, allowing just 1.00 goal per game, which ranks third in the GSC. The Choctaw offense is a little closer to the middle of the pack, averaging 1.9 goals per game.
  • The MC offense can strike from nearly anywhere. The team has no players in the top 15 in the conference in goals scored, but both Lauren Kate Carter and Kyra Montes rank among the league's top 10 assisters.

Scouting Delta State
  • The Lady Statesmen have averaged an impressive 2.0 goals per game, which ranks fourth in the GSC, but the team's defense has been cause for concern. With a 2.07 goals against average, DSU has allowed fewer goals than just Valdosta State and Shorter.
  • With six goals, three game-winners and 15 points, Catherine Thomson has proven to be a major offensive threat for Delta State. The senior put two shots on target against UWF last year in the 5-0 Argonaut win.

In the GSC Tournament
  • With the Gulf South Conference Tournament rapidly approaching, it is a good time to mention UWF's presence in conference tournament history. The Argonauts have appeared in all 20 Gulf South Conference Tournaments to date.
  • West Florida's 20 GSC Tournament berths are six more than Christian Brothers' 14, which are the second-most in conference history. North Alabama and UAH are behind CBU, with eight appearances.
  • West Florida also leads the conference with 27 wins in the GSC Tournament, 16 appearances in the GSC Tournament Finals and 9 GSC Championships.
  • The Argos have clinched a spot in this year's GSC Tournament and would host the tournament with two more wins this weekend.
