BOX SCORE
MOBILE, Ala. – The University of West Florida men's soccer team recorded its second consecutive five-goal game in a 5-1 drubbing of Spring Hill College to extend its unbeaten streak to seven – its longest unbeaten streak since a eight-game winning streak in 2010. UWF concludes the regular season with an 8-5-2 record.
It is also the first time that UWF has posted back-to-back games with five or more goals since the Argos did so against Thomas (Ga.) and Alabama Huntsville on Oct. 31, 2010 and Nov. 5, 2010.
Chandler Castleman broke the match's scoreless tie in the 24th minute, converting on his fifth goal of the year after receiving a
Marteinn Urbancic pass. Castleman came back for an encore less than six minutes later, by posting his second goal of the afternoon – this time being assisted by
Tristan Rehrig.
Stephen Enderlin recorded his fourth goal of the season with less than two minutes remaining in the first half to give UWF a 3-0 lead at the break. Rehrig and
Erick Rivera recorded an assist on Enderlin's tally, which was converted from roughly 10 yards out.
Rivera, who became the first UWF freshman to record a hat trick since 2011 on Thursday at AUM, kept his hot streak alive in the 58th minute with a goal assisted by
Gavin Gillies. SHC added its lone goal in the 69th minute, but Rivera struck once again for his second goal of the game and fifth goal of the weekend to give UWF a 5-1 lead in the 77th minute.
Alik Morgan assisted on Rivera's second finish, and became the seventh different Argonaut to post at least one point in the match.
With his goal-scoring spurt, Rivera becomes the first UWF player in over a decade to record back-to-back multi-goal games. All four of Rivera's shots against the Badgers were on target in Saturday's match.
Phil D'Amico recorded two saves to record his eighth win of the year in net for the Argonauts.
West Florida is set to host the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament against Alabama Huntsville on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. The winner of the Argos-Chargers contest will move on to the GSC Semifinals, hosted by Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi.
