Game Notes Complete Notes (pdf)

* This is the 36th season of West Florida women's basketball. UWF has an all-time record of 500-462 (.518) in 962 games. UWF is 181-146 (.554) in 21 seasons of Gulf South Conference play. The Argonauts have made four NCAA Tournament appearances, including each of the last two seasons. UWF won its first-ever GSC Championship two years ago.

ABOUT UWF
* Fourth-year head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton has four starters and eight letterwinners back from last year's 20-win squad that finished second in the GSC regular season.
* UWF ranks third in the GSC in scoring offense (65.5 ppg) and seventh in scoring defense (62.4).
* Katie Bobos (12.7 ppg) and Toni Brewer (12.0 ppg) rank in the top 15 in the GSC in scoring. Union is the only team with more than two of the league's top 15 scorers.
* Brewer leads the squad on the glass with 8.0 rpg, followed by Courtney Meyer at 7.9, Bobos at 7.8 rpg and Kelly Preston at 6.6. UWF is the only team in the GSC with three - not to mention four - of the top 10 rebounders in the conference. The Argos are third in the GSC in rebounds (40.1 rpg) and third in rebound margin (6.2).
* UWF leads in the GSC with 4.0 blocks per game, while Alex Coyne leads the conference and ranks fourth in Division II with 6.8 apg.
* The UWF defense has been a key to the team's success, as the Argos have gone 13-0 when holding opponents to 60 points or fewer, including six times during their 7-game win streak.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
* With just one game remaining in the regular season, UWF currently sits in fifth place in the conference at 14-7. Lee is a half-game ahead at 15-7, while Delta State and Shorter have clinched the second and third seeds in the conference tournament. UWF could finish fourth with a win on Saturday, as the Argos hold the tiebreaker over Lee. Union has clinched the No. 1 seed and is currently on a league-best 15-game win streak.
* If UWF wins, it will host Lee on Tuesday night. If it loses, the Argos will travel to Clevenald, Tenn. for their first round GSC Tournament game.

ABOUT VALDOSTA STATE
* VSU is 11-16 overall and 7-14 in GSC play, putting the Lady Blazers in ninth place. They have been eliminated from postseason contention.
* The Lady Blazers are 2-9 on the road, with their last road win coming at Mississippi College on Feb. 4.
* Madi Mitchell, Aaliyah Cheatham, Lydia Harvey and Maggie Davis have each started almost every game for VSU and have been the primary offensive threats. Like UWF, Valdosta State has used a balanced attack, as each player in that quartet has scored between 7.2 and 10.5 points per game.
* Harvey has been the threat from outside, as she has converted on 42 percent of her tries from beyond the arc.
* Davis leads the team with 5.9 rebounds per game, and the Lady Blazers rank eighth in the GSC in that category as a team.

SERIES HISTORY VS. VSU
* UWF trails VSU 17-23 in the series record since 1994.
* LAST MEETING: VSU ended West Florida's 7-game winning streak with a 61-55 win in mid-January. The Argos trailed by 15 at halftime and outscored the Lady Blazers by 11 in the third quarter but never got closer than two twice, including w/ 2:57 remaining. Toni Brewer had 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and seven rebounds. Kelly Preston battled foul trouble and came close to a double-double with nine points and 11 boards, while she and Courtney Meyer blocked three shots apiece.

DOUBLING UP
* West Florida has collected 23 double-doubles this season.
* Katie Bobos has a team-high eight, including three of the last four games entering the West Alabama matchup. Toni Brewer collected her sixth double-double at Delta State on February 4. Courtney Meyer has six, Alex Coyne has two, and Kelly Preston has one.
* Meyer has put up five of her six double-doubles in the last seven games. She came just one block short of a triple-double on against UNA on Dec. 5, as she tied a school record with nine swats against the Lions.
* Bobos, Coyne and Preston combined to put up a team-best three in the win over Mississippi College on Dec. 17. The Argos achieved the same feat on Dec. 5 against North Alabama, when Bobos, Brewer and Meyer each recorded a double-double.
