* This is the 36th season of West Florida women's basketball. UWF has an all-time record of 499-459 (.520) in 959 games. UWF is 180-142 (.558) in 21 seasons of Gulf South Conference play. The Argonauts have made four NCAA Tournament appearances, including each of the last two seasons. UWF won its first-ever GSC Championship two years ago.
* The UWF defense has been a key to the team's success, as the Argos have gone 10-0 when holding opponents to 60 points or fewer, including six times during their 7-game win streak.
ABOUT UWF
* Fourth-year head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton has four starters and eight letterwinners back from last year's 20-win squad that finished second in the GSC regular season.
* UWF stands at third in the GSC in scoring average and in the middle of the conference in scoring defense on the year. The Argonauts have averaged 66.1 points per game and have allowed 62.8 points per game, which ranks seventh in the conference.
* Katie Bobos, Toni Brewer and Alex Coyne rank in the top 15 in the GSC in scoring, and UWF is the only team in the league with three of the conference's top 15 scorers. nBrewer leads the squad on the glass with 8.2 rpg, followed by Bobos with 7.6. Courtney Meyer is just behind Bobos, with 7.4 rebounds per game, and Kelly Preston has averaged 6.5. UWF is the only team in the GSC with three of the top 10 rebounders in the conference.
* UWF leads in the GSC with 4.2 blocks per game, while Alex Coyne leads the conference and ranks third in Division II with 7.1 apg.
IT'S CROWDED AT THE TOP
* After opening GSC play with a 1-2 mark, UWF rattled off seven straight victories to find itself in a 5-way tie for first place. The Argos currently sit tied with Shorter for fourth place in the conference at 11-4 record and hold a tiebreaker over the Lady Hawks. Union holds the conference lead with a 13-2 mark in the league, and Delta State is at 12-3.
ABOUT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
* Three Choctaws are averaging double-digit points on the year - Kristen Sampson (14.8), Chloe Roberts (14.0) and Carla Clemmons (12.4).
* Mississippi College is the third-best 3-point shooting team in the league at 35 percent. Sampson, Roberts and Allie Hill have been the most dangerous from beyond the arc.
* The Choctaws are shooting 41 percent from the floor but have struggled to take care of the ball at times, as evident by their 21.4 turnovers per game. MC has posted 20-plus miscues 11 times this season.
SERIES HISTORY VS MC
* UWF fell to the Choctaws in the first three matchups, the first two of which date all the way back to 1995. With MC joining the conference in 2014, UWF went 1-1 in the 2014-15 campaign, and took a 19-point win in December.
* LAST MEETING: UWF surpassed the .500 mark for the first time this season with a December victory over Mississippi College. Kelly Preston (17p/11r), Katie Bobos (17p/11r) and Alex Coyne (11p/11r) each went for double-doubles, which marked the first time this season that three Argos did so. West Florida owned the low post, outrebounding MC 53-42 and ourscoring the Choctaws 52-18 in the paint.
DOUBLING UP
* West Florida has collected 17 double-doubles this season. n
* Meyer has put up double-doubles in each of the last two games, going for 13 points and 12 rebounds against Lee on Thursday and posting a career day against Shorter with 15 points and 18 boards.
