No. 6 UWF women's tennis falls to No. 3 Saint Leo on the road

West Florida drops regional match to the south region’s top-ranked team on Tuesday

SAINT LEO, Fla.
– The No. 6-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team fell to the No. 3-ranked Saint Leo Lions by a score of 3-6 on the road Tuesday afternoon. West Florida (8-2, 5-0 GSC) has a 6-2 regional record after falling to the top-ranked team in the south region.
 
Senior Nina Bubelova (Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia) and junior Paula Lopez (Tucumán, Argentina) improved to 8-1 on the year by defeating Coralie Pesenti and Natalia Siedliska 9-7(6) at number two doubles.
 
Senior Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) and junior Hannah Toro (London, England) fell to Isabella Robbiani and Anastasia Wagner 3-8 at number one doubles. Freshman Dianna Vlad (Oberhausen, Germany) and freshman Valeria Mantilla (Bogotá, Colombia) fell to Marine Beugre-Guyot and Pauline Helgesson 3-8 at number three doubles.
 
No. 42 Bubelova improved to 5-3 on the year with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Helgesson at number five singles.
 
Heather Mixon (New Iberia, La./Catholic HS) remained unbeaten on the year with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Madeleine Gauthier at number six singles. Mixon sits at 8-0 on the year in her first season for the Argonauts.
 
The top half of UWF's singles lineup was challenged today as Saint Leo boasted three players ranked in the top 25 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's National Singles Rankings.
 
Toro fell to No. 3 Siedliska by a score of 0-6, 3-6 at number one singles while No. 32 Dikosavljevic fell to No. 21 Robbiani at number two singles by a score of 3-6, 3-6.
 
Lopez dropped her second match of the season to No. 10 Marine Beugre-Guyot by a score of 3-6, 0-6 at number three singles.
 
Senior Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) dropped her first match of the season to Pesenti at number four singles by a score of 1-6, 4-6.
 
West Florida will next face Embry Riddle on Wednesday, March 16 at 2 p.m. The Argos will then face Florida Southern on Friday, March 18 at 2 p.m. before playing No. 27 Rollins on Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. UWF will wrap up the road trip on Sunday, March 20 at 9 a.m. with a match against No. 7 Nova Southeastern.
