PENSACOLA, Fla. –  UWF men's basketball earned its long awaited first Gulf South Conference win of the season with a 100-81 drubbing of North Alabama.

Just 10 games into the season, UWF is now one win shy of last season's win total of seven. The Argos tallied 100 points for the first time since its 2012-13 season opener, when it topped Palm Beach Atlantic 102-91 on Nov. 9, 2012.

West Florida (6-4, 1-4 GSC) saw double doubles from Austin Somerfield (13 points, 13 rebounds) and Rashaan Benson (10 points, 10 assists). Scoring leaders for the Argonauts include DJ Thorpe, who set a new season-high with 22 points, and Deangelo Legrier who notched 21 points on a 7-for-8 shooting performance.

UWF set season bests in points, field goals made (33), three-point field goals made (13), assists (25) and assists allowed (6). West Florida's 52.4% field goal percentage is a new season-high and is the best single-game clip since recording a 53.7% mark against Union on Feb. 13, 2016.

West Florida's 13 three-pointers is tied for the most in a single game since recording 14 against Saint Leo in a double overtime win on Dec. 17, 2007. The only other time since that effort where UWF has recorded 13 treys in a single contest came against Mississippi College last season on Feb. 6, 2016.

North Alabama (6-5, 1-4 GSC) was led by Dimario Jackson and Tavaras Tolliver, who scored 19 points and 17 points, respectively. UNA was held to just a 16.7% success rate from three-point range, good for the second lowest single-game mark for a UWF opponent this season.

The game defining run for UWF started with 8:03 left in the first half with the score tied at 22-22, where a Somerfield layup kick started a 19-0 run for the Argonauts over the next 4:09. During the run scoring was distributed between six points from Legrier, five points from Somerfield and five points from Thorpe. Mario Stramaglia's triple with 3:54 remaining in the first half capped the run and provided the Argos with a comfortable 43-24 lead.

West Florida went into halftime with a sizeable 50-31 lead. North Alabama provided a bigger test for the Argos in the second half, with both teams scoring 50 points in the last 20 minutes. 14 of Marvin Jones' 17 points came in the second half to lead the UWF offense.

Senior guard Jason Laatsch hit a career milestone in a nine-point showing, converting on his 100th career three-point field goal in the first half. Laatsch went a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc against the Lions.

The Argos hit the road for each of its next three games, beginning with a Saturday afternoon contest at Shorter at 3:00 p.m. ET.
