Argos Look For Fifth GSC Road Win Tuesday At Valdosta

UWF seeking 8-0 overall record in conference play

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida volleyball team (17-6, 7-0 GSC) will travel to Valdosta, Ga. to take on Valdosta State (9-10, 4-3 GSC) in a conference match Tuesday at 6:00 pm CST. The No. 24 Argos are 4-0 in conference road matches so far this year and are 5-0 overall in away matches in 2017.


ABOUT LAST WEEKEND

* Argos volleyball went 1-2 at the annual South Region Crossover Tournament in Hoover, Ala. The team scored a 3-1 win over Rollins Friday before falling in close matches vs. Eckerd and No. 4 Palm Beach Atlantic. Nadine Williams starred for the Argos at the tournament, posting 42 kills and 46 digs in three matches.

* Prior to the Crossover, UWF scored a thrilling win Tuesday over rival North Alabama in the UWF Field House Tuesday. The win was the second vs. UNA this season.

* The Argos received 86 votes in the latest AVCA poll and remained in the AVCA Division II Top 25 for the second straight week, checking in this week at No. 24. UWF currently leads the GSC with a 7-0 record. North Alabama is second at 6-1.


CURRENT GSC LEADERS

* Rachel Neblett ranks second in the GSC with a hitting percentage of .398.  Caleigh Morrison is tied for ninth in the GSC with a .278 hitting percentage.

* In the GSC, Neblett ranks sixth with 3.24 kills per set. Jordyn Poppen ranks ninth with 2.79. Neblett is third with 0.44 service aces per set.

* Monique StCyr ranks second in the GSC with 9.28 assists per set.

* In the GSC, Morrison ranks fourth with 1.04 blocks per set. Neblett ranks fifth with 0.98.

* Logan Kael ranks ninth in the GSC with 3.81 digs per set.

* UWF leads the GSC with a .242 hitting percentage. The team is second in the GSC with 13.02 assists per set. The Argos lead the conference with 13.91 kills per set, 2.18 blocks per set and 0.81 opponent service aces per set.

SCOUTING VALDOSTA

* Valdosta State enters tomorrow's match with an overall record of 9-10 and a GSC mark of 4-3. The team has lost three straight matches and four of its last five. The team also participated in the South Region Crossover and lost all three of its matches and nine of ten sets to Barry, Tampa and Florida Southern.

* UWF is 26-6 since 2001 vs. Valdosta State and has three of its last four matches vs. the Blazers. The Argos are 11-4 at Valdosta since 2001.

* Valdosta State is second in the GSC with 17.16 digs per set. The team ranks fourth in hitting percentage (.162) and opponent assists per set (10.47). The team ranks fifth in blocks per set (1.76).

* Kayla Widera ranks third in the GSC in hitting percentage (.337). She ranks second in blocks per set (1.12). Sydney Chick ranks third in the GSC in digs per set (4.91). Sara Dandridge ranks fourth in the conference with 8.82 assists per set.
