MOBILE, Ala. – The University of West Florida women's soccer team picked up three more conference points with a 2-0 win at Spring Hill on Thursday afternoon, improving to 10-2-1 in league play this season and 13-3-1 overall.
Savanna Soares tallied the Argos' first goal of the day from 10 yards out in the fifth minute after receiving a pass from
Grace Busby on the left side. The goal was Soares' fourth of the year, tying her with
Shantell Thompson for the fifth-most on the team this season.
With the assist, Busby now has six points over her last five games, with a goal and an assist against West Georgia and a goal at Christian Brothers.
Kaljit Atwal got in on the action in the 67th minute to finish off the scoring for UWF, picking up her third goal of the year with an assist from
Leonie Kreil. Kreil's assist was her team-high eighth this year, and that total ranks second in the conference.
It was another dominant effort for the team, outshooting SHC 23-7 with nine shots on goal. With four saves on the day,
Katelyn Burkhart raised her season save percentage to .816 and lowered her goals against average to .55 for the year. She is now tied with Andrea McDonald from Mississippi College and Jenni Aarniva from West Alabama with seven shutouts on the year.
The Argonauts wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a home contest against Auburn Montgomery at 3 pm. UWF will also be honoring seniors
Kaljit Atwal,
Georgia Bailey and
Katelyn Burkhart with a Senior Day ceremony. West Florida will host a Gulf South Conference Tournament First Round game on Tuesday, against an opponent yet to be determined.
