THE COACHES

was hired as the first coach in program history on Feb. 6, 2014. He has a 113-54 career record in 15-plus years, which includes a 50-24 mark at UNC Pembroke from 2007-13 and 53-22 at Azusa Pacific from 1999-05.
* UWA Coach Brett Gilliland: Gilliland is in his fourth season at UWA after taking over for former coach Will Hall in 2013. The Pensacola native and Escambia HS grad is 25-16 at his alma mater, where he starred from 2000-03, finishing as the Tigers' single-season (3,213) and career passing yards (6,689) record holder. He started his coaching career at Georgia Tech (2006-09) and made stops at Georgia Southern (2010-12) and Kennesaw State (2013).

UWF heads to #25/23 West Alabama this week looking to clinch a winning record in just its second season of competition. The Argos  are looking for their second consecutive victory, and looking to improve to 4-0 on the road.

ABOUT UWF
UWF has won three of its last four contests and is 5-2 on the season; 3-2 in Gulf South Conference play.
Sophomore running back Chris Schwarz continues to improve and leads the team with 343 rushing yards, including career-highs on consecutive weeks at Florida Tech and vs. Mississippi College. After a 75-yard performance at FIT, he carried the ball 15 times for 83 yards - a 5.5 yards per carry average - and a touchdown against the MC. UWF is averaging 101.6 rushing yards per game.
The Argos are averaging 238 passing yards per game with 12 touchdowns. Redshirt freshman Mike Beaudry has completed 54 percent of his pass attempts after completing a school-record 75 percent for 322 yards at Shorter last week.
Junior DB Marvin Conley leads the team with 53 total tackles, good for eighth in the GSC, and has two interceptions returned for TD (vs. MC and at Shorter last week). Senior SLB Reggie Barnes has 51 tackles and a pair of sacks, while  sophomore MLB Josh Smiley has 48 stops. Sophomore WLB Andre Duncombe has two interceptions after one each against FIT and MC.
Smiley, John Williamson and Stephen Matthews have three sacks apiece to lead the team.

ABOUT WEST ALABAMA
#25/23 West Alabama is 6-2 on the season after a 39-41 loss at Florida Tech last week. The Tigers lead the GSC in scoring, averaging over 41 points per game.
UWA leads the GSC in total offense, averaging 447 yards per game. Led by junior QB Harry Satterwhite, the Tigers are averaging 289 yards per game through the air. Satterwhite  leads the GSC in passing yards (266.3 ypg) with a 67 percent completion rate and 2,130 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Senior WR Donta Armstrong leads the Tigers with 39 receptions for 525 yards, good for a GSC best 65.6 ypg. He collected all-conference and all-America honors in 2016 with 91 receptions for 904 yards.
Led by senior RB Lakenderic Thomas, UWA is averaging 157 rushing yards per game. Thomas has 520 rushing yards on the year with a GSC best nine touchdowns.
Junior WLB Terry Amuel leads the GSC with 69 tackles with 8.6 per game. Junior DB Tevin Madison could be the best defensive back in the league, as evidence by his GSC best 10 break-ups and four INT.

UWF-UWA SERIES HISTORY
West Alabama broke a 7-7 tie with 38 unanswered points to defeat UWF, 45-21, in the first-ever meeting between the teams a year ago at Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola.
UWF finished with 349 yards of total offense and quarterbacks Kaleb Nobles and Grey Jackson combined to throw for 248 yards on 31-of-59 with two touchdowns.
The Tigers outgained the Argonauts 536-to-349 and had 490 through the air in their fifth-consecutive victory. UWA scored 17 points in the third quarter while putting up 181 yards of offense in the frame. Austin Grammer was 41-of-56 for 493 yards and three touchdowns.
UWF scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, with Jackson leading both drives. He scampered 22 yards up the middle on the second play of the quarter before hooking up with Ishmel Morrow on a 14-yard pass to complete the scoring.
Antoine Griffin and Tate Lehtio led the Argo receiving corps with six catches for 59 yards apiece. Jackson was the team's leading rusher, piling up 73 yards on five carries.

ARGOS WITH 5 VICTORIES... AGAIN
UWF enters the West Alabama game with a 5-2 record. Last season, UWF also had five victories with three games remaining and struggled in its final games  - all losses to UWA, North Alabama and West Georgia.
The 2016 team appeared to hit a wall at this point last season and that need for improvement physically and mentally has been a point of emphasis for the coaching staff and strength & conditioning staff coming into the 2017 campaign.

UWF WITH ANOTHER SHOT AT A RANKED OPPONENT
UWF is facing its second ranked opponent of the season and fourth all-time. The Argos dropped a heartbreaker to #20 Delta State, 28-25, two weeks ago in Pensacola.
In their inaugural 2016 campaign, UWF upset #16 Florida Tech, 42-39 at home, before falling to #3 North Alabama, 51-3 in Florence.
Earlier this season, UWF was scheduled to host then-#16 Midwestern State but the game was canceled due to the threat of Hurricane Irma.

UWF EARNS FIRST EVER TOP-25 VOTE
UWF received one vote in the AFCA Division 2 Top-25 poll this week, marking the first-ever vote for the second-year program. The Argonauts would be tied for 35th if the numbered listing continued past 25.

BEAUDRY REPEATS AS GSC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
UWF quarterback Mike Beaudry was named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week as announced by the league on Monday.
It was his second award in as many weeks as he had the most efficient game of his career in the road win over Shorter, completing a career-high 25 passes on 33 attempts for a school-record 75.8 completion percentage. The Oviedo, Fla. native finished with 322 yards and four while also serving as the team's top rusher, totaling 52 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown.
His 374 yards of total offense were the most in the GSC last week and he was responsible for all five offensive touchdowns in the 42-29 triumph. A week after posting a career-high eight completions of 20 yards or more, he had five of those plays on Saturday while leading the Argos to their third-consecutive road victory.
