Argos Earn Second Sweep Of The Weekend

Neblett, Poppen once again star as UWF moves to 12-0 in GSC play

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – UWF volleyball (22-6, 12-0 GSC) swept Lee University (16-7, 7-4 GSC) Saturday afternoon. The team cruised to a 3-0 victory behind 14 kills and nine digs from Rachel Neblett and 13 kills from Jordyn Poppen. The win was the fifth straight for No. 22 UWF and helped the team to improve to 8-0 in away matches this year.

Neblett set the tone early, scoring the first point of the first set, which UWF won handily 25-11. Neblett picked up five kills and a block in the first. Nadine Williams added the first three of her nine kills in the match. The Argos began the set on a 10-1 run and never looked back. West Florida outhit Lee .343 to .026 in the first.

Poppen starred for the team in the second, notching five kills. Neblett added five of her own in another dominant performance by the Argos. After falling behind 2-1, the Argonauts reeled off a 22-8 run that put the set away. UWF would go on to win it by a final of 25-11. The Argos once again outhit Lee by a large margin, .405 to .091. 

Poppen again starred in the third, posting six kills as the Argos wrapped the match with a 25-17 victory. Katy Kuhlmeier chipped in four kills in the third. UWF closed the finale with a 14-8 run.

Monique StCyr led the team with 39 assists and 14 digs. She also added six kills. Logan Kael finished with 12 digs. UWF finished with five blocks and outhit Lee .380 to .094.
West Florida returns home Tuesday to take on Valdosta State (10-14, 5-7 GSC) at 6:00 pm. The contest will be a rematch of their meeting in Valdosta October 17, which UWF won 3-2.
