Women's Basketball Picks Up Preseason Top-20 Rankings

The team opens the season with four games away from Pensacola

D2SIDA Media Top-25 | WBCA Coaches Top-25

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team will enter the 2017-18 season ranked in the top 20 in both national polls. The Argonauts earned a preseason ranking of 18 from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and 19 by the Division 2 Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA).

UWF is also ranked third in the D2SIDA South Region ranking.
 
UWF is coming off the most memorable season in program history, collecting school records with 28 overall victories and 18 conference wins. The Argonauts also won their first GSC regular-season title and the NCAA South Region Championship that earned them a berth in the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time in school history.
 
Head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton enters her sixth season in Pensacola and welcomes back two starters and seven additional letterwinners from a year ago. The Argonauts added a freshman and five transfers to the roster.
 
The Argos ended the 2016-17 season ranked 12th in the WBCA poll and 17th in the D2SIDA media poll.
 
UWF will open the season in Valdosta, Georgia when it faces Albany State on Friday, Nov. 10 and Fort Valley State on Saturday, Nov. 11.
