UWF Travels To Spring Hill For DH With Men's Programs

Nieman shines in opening contests

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's basketball is set to take on the Badgers of Spring Hill on Tuesday at 5:30 in Mobile, Alabama. The Argonauts will look to bounce back after a tough loss on the road against Columbus State.
 

TRANSFER IMPACT
Ahead of Tuesday's matchup with Spring Hill, junior Halee Nieman has made her presence felt for UWF. After transferring from Saginaw Valley State, Nieman has had an immediate impact with 43 points in three games. Nieman has averaged 14.3 points per game and currently leads the team in points and steals (8). Nieman ranks ninth in the GSC in scoring and sixth in steals.

SENIOR LEADERSHIP
Senior Courtney Meyer has been a leader for UWF thus far, averaging just over ten points per game. Meyer leads the GSC and ranks fourth in the NCAA in blocks with 12. Meyer set the UWF single-season blocks record with 100 in the 2016-17 season. She has 194 career blocks and is two shy of breaking the UWF all-time record, currently held by Melissa Nafzger from 2003-06. Additionally, she has a double-double in all three games, tying her with 10 other plays nationally for first place.

Shami Goodman has also had a huge presence on the court for the Argos. The senior from Chicago, Illinois leads the team from the three point line. Goodman is currently tied with Nieman with a total of 63 points for the Argonauts.

ABOUT SPRING HILL
Spring Hill is currently 3-1 overall with its only loss coming in the season opener at Tampa. The Badgers have since collected wins over Palm Beach Atlantic, Delta State and Williams Carey. Sophomore post Tiffany Valentine, who missed last season with an injury, leads the Badgers with 20.8 points and 9.0 rebounds over four games.

SERIES HISTORY WITH SHC
UWF has won all nine previous matchups with Spring Hill. The Argos are 4-0 in Pensacola and 5-0 in Mobile. UWF won last year's meeting, 81-51, at the UWF Field House. Courtney Meyer and Toni Brewer each collected double-doubles as UWF improved to 4-0 for the first time in 11 years. Meyer finished with game-highs of 16 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks, while Brewer had 10 points and 12 boards. Alex Coyne scored 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting to go along with seven assists and two steals. UWF shot 48 percent and used a 6-for-9 second-half effort from outside to finish 7-for-13. The Argos also outrebounded the Badgers 50-32.
