* Fifth-year head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton has four starters and eight letterwinners back from last year's 17-10 squad that finished tied for third in the GSC regular season at 15-7.
* Yelton is 81-56 at UWF and 138-140 in 9-plus years as a college head coach, which includes a 57-84 mark in at Charleston Southern from 2001-06 ... She is a 1996 North Carolina graduate who was the school's all-time leader in every 3-point category at the end of her career.
UWF ROLLING ALONG AT NO. 23 IN D2 MEDIA POLL
* UWF dropped six sports this week to No. 23 in the latest Division 2 Media Poll and flip-flopped with Eckerd for the fourth-consecutive week to No. 2 in the region.
* UWF had risen to as high as No. 14 in the Division 2 Media Poll four weeks ago ... The No. 14 ranking is the highest for the Argonauts in the history of the poll.
* The Women's Basketball Division 2 Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, in its third year of existence ... The regional poll is released every Monday, followed by the national poll every Tuesday ... Each region has six representatives that comprise the regional poll ... The national poll has 16 voters – 2 from each region ... The Women's Basketball D2 regional polls will conclude Feb. 6, 2017 due to the start of the NCAA regional polls. The national polls will continue through the end of the season.
UWF DEBUTS AT NO. 2 IN FIRST NCAA REGIONAL RANKING
* UWF came in ranked No. 2 in the first edition of the NCAA Division II regional rankings as announced on Wednesday. Eckerd was the No. 1 team and leads all region teams with 20 wins, with UWF at No. 2 and Rollins is No. 3.
* The Argos are the highest of four GSC teams in the region rankings, with Valdosta State at No. 6, Lee at No. 7 and North Alabama at No. 10. No. 4 Florida Southern. No. 5 Tampa, No. 8 Benedict and No. 9 Nova Southeastern are also among the 10 teams ranked in the region.
* The region polls will determine the five at large bids to the eight-team NCAA South Region Tournament in March. The eight-team tournament will consist of the three conference tournament champions from the south region (Gulf South, Sunshine, Southern Intercollegiate) and five at-large bids. The women's region will be March 10, 11 and 13 at the location of the top seed.
* The NCAA will announce region rankings for the next two weeks – on Feb. 22 and March 1 – leading up to Selection Sunday on March 5 at 9:00 p.m. Central time on NCAA.com.

ABOUT NORTH ALABAMA
* UNA is 17-7 overall and 11-7 in GSC action - good for a tie for 4th place with West Georgia ... The Lions are 12-1 at home this season with a narrow 55-52 loss to Delta State as the only blemish.
SERIES HISTORY VS. UNA
* UWF leads the series 11-8 in the last 10 years ... The Argonauts have won the last seven over the Lions and the last two in Florence.
* LAST MEETING: 73-60 UWF win in Pensacola on Jan. 2 - A trio of UWF players went for double-doubles and the Argonauts used a dominating fourth quarter to defeat North Alabama, 73-60 ... Katie Bobos had a game-high 19 points on a season-high 53 percent shooting night to go along with 10 rebounds and three blocks for her second-consecutive double-double, while Toni Brewer contributed 16 points and 13 boards for her tenth double-double of the year ... Courtney Meyer added 14 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks, and Alex Coyne posted 13 points and nine boards along with six assists to put four players in double figures for the tenth time in 11 games ... UWF (9-2, 4-1 Gulf South) shot 44 percent in the game but again got a suffocating effort on defense and on the glass to pull away down the stretch ... The Argonauts grabbed twice as many caroms as the Lions, ending with a 58-29 margin ... BREWER A FORCE NIGHT IN & NIGHT OUT
* Junior F Toni Brewer has averaged 14.0 points (12th in GSC) and 11.8 rebounds (5th in NCAA, 1st in GSC) with 14 double-doubles (8th in NCAA) ... She ranks 12th in the GSC with a 39% FG pct. and 15th with a team-high 72% FT pct. ... She pulled down a career-high 23 rebounds at Montevallo on Nov. 19 in the third game of the year ... that marked the most in either Division I or II at the time (since has dropped to No. 5 in D2), the second-most in UWF history and the 13th-most in GSC history ... Last Saturday against Union, she became the 11th UWF player to score 1,000 points in her career ... She enters the UNA game with 1003 points and 751 rebounds in her career.
BOBOS REACHES 1,000 POINTS & SECURES UWF CAREER REBOUNDING MARK
* Senior F Katie Bobos has steadily worked her way up the career scoring and rebounding lists at UWF, entering the UNA game with 1209 points and 888 rebounds ... The Lowell, Ind. native has 20 games in double figures this year which includes 12 double-doubles ... She became just the tenth player in program history to surpass 1,000 points when she reached the milestone at Union just before the holiday break ... She set the UWF rebounding record a month ago against Delta State when she grabbed a career-high 19 boards as she surpassed Melissa Nafzger (798 from 2003-08) for first place all-time ... She is averaging 14.0 ppg in her last eight games, just above her season average 12.3 ppg.

* Senior PG Alex Coyne has continued her impressive play since arriving at UWF last year ... She is currently averaging 10.1 points, 6.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per outing ... WHAT HAPPENED IN THE OFFSEASON
* Former assistant coach Jessie Ivey was named the National Division 2 Assistant Coach of the Year by the WBCA, before accepting a similar position at Bowling Green ... UWF hired former WNBA veteran LaQuanda Quick as her replacement. Quick spent last season at Winston Salem State and has been put in charge of the Argonaut defense ... UWF took a foreign tour to the Dominican Republic from Aug. 11-18. The squad played four games, visited local sugarcane villages, orphanages and women's shelters while ministering and sharing the love of basketball.
UWF PICKED 3RD IN GSC PRESEASON POLL
* The UWF women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the Gulf South Conference preseason coaches poll ... UWF earned a total of 101 points in the voting process, collecting one first place vote, a league-high five second-place votes, one third, three fourth and a fifth place vote.
* Defending regular-season champion Union was picked first, followed by Delta State, which won the GSC Tournament title. Lee followed UWF in fourth, and Shorter was picked fifth.
* Seniors Katie Bobos and Alex Coyne were each named to the 5-member preseason all-conference team ... Bobos was a second-team all-GSC and academic all-GSC honoree last year after averaging 12.8 points and 8.0 rebounds. The Lowell, Indiana native scored in double figures in 21 games and collected eight double-doubles ... Coyne was also a second team choice a year ago after transferring from Southern Miss. In her first season with the Argos, the point guard from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania averaged 10.0 points, 6.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. She led the GSC and ranked fifth in the NCAA in assists, and was third in GSC and 49th nationally in steals.
