BOX SCORE

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The UWF men's basketball team shot a season-best 57 percent to earn its fifth win in its last six games and defeated Auburn Montgomery in a nonconference affair, 87-76 on the road Monday night.

With 11 more wins than last season, UWF (18-8, 12-8 GSC) has solidified the best single-season turnaround in program history. The previous best for the Argos was when the 2011-12 team followed a nine-win 2010-11 season with 19 wins for a 10-win improvement. The Argos finish its regular season nonconference schedule a perfect 6-0 after Monday night's win.

"I harped on this being a region game and how important this game was," said head coach Jeff Burkhamer. "We had to come in and play well, be active, and be energetic. For the most part, we did a pretty good job tonight of taking the game to them."

Marvin Jones set a new season single-game high with 28 points and started his outing by swishing all of his first six three-point attempts. Jones finished the game shooting 10-of-16 from the floor and 6-for-8 from distance.

"Marvin was terrific. He got off to a good start and he hit a couple of threes early that really carried without him throughout the game. He took good shots, he made those shots, and I thought he played really well," Burkhamer stated.

AUM (6-19) made the first basket of the game to take a 3-0 lead, but the Argonauts only trailed for 39 seconds before taking a lead and holding it for the remainder of the game. UWF went into the locker room at halftime with a commanding 42-32 lead and followed that first-half performance by shooting a red-hot 67 percent from the field.

Deangelo Legrier performed well with a 19-point performance on 7-of-9 shooting. Darryl Tucker posted his third consecutive double-digit point performance with 15 points and a team-high six rebounds. Rashaan Benson led all players in the game with five assists.

UWF wraps up the regular season later this week, playing host to Lee on Thursday night before entertaining Shorter on Saturday.
