PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 7-ranked UWF women's tennis team used precision strokes and a strong home court advantage for a 9-0 win over Alabama Huntsville on Sunday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.

UWF improved to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 against Gulf South Conference competition. UAH dropped its third-consecutive match, moving to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in league play.

UWF cruised through doubles play with a pair of 8-4 wins and an 8-1 triumph. The No. 1 duo of
Paula Lopez and
Paula Coyos won their fifth match in as many tries, while
Jordana Lujan and
Diana Vlad at No. 2 and
Heather Mixon and
Valeria Mantilla at No. 3 both won their second matches of the young season.Â

In singles play, UWF won all six matches in straight sets with only one set out of 12 needing more than 10 games for its completion.

Coyos at No. 2 and Mixon at No. 5 both remained perfect at 5-0, while junior transfer
Samantha Echevarria won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 in her first singles match of 2017.

UWF will face two conference teams on the road next weekend and the reigning NAIA national champion. The Argos will face Lee on Friday, March 3 at 10 a.m. in Cleveland, Tenn. and Shorter on Saturday, March 4 at 1 p.m. in Rome, Ga. On Sunday morning, UWF will meet NAIA No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett at its campus in Lawrenceville, Ga.
