Argos Conclude Regular Season With Extra-Inning Loss Against Lee

Argos begin postseason play next weekend at Delta State for GSC Tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla.  –  The University of West Florida baseball team concluded its regular season slate with a 4-3, 10-inning setback against Lee. Concluding the season with a 26-22 overall record and a 17-15 GSC mark, UWF will be the No. 6 seed heading into next weekend's Gulf South Conference Tournament at Delta State.

The Argonauts fell victim to a 10th inning Chase Andrews RBI single on a 2-2 fastball from Steve McClellan. UWF went down in order in the home half of the 10th as the Argos ended the game on a streak of 5.1 innings without garnering a hit.

West Florida collected a 3-2 lead in the fifth with RBI from Michael Savas, Brandon Harmon and Nick Kerkmann all coming in a three-hit frame for UWF. Lee tied the game in the seventh on a Drew Johnson RBI single, but on the same play, Savas fired a strike from centerfield to gun down Nathan Wierzgac, who would have been Lee's go-ahead run.

Kerkmann and Tanner Halstead each went 2-for-4 to account for four of UWF's five hits.

McClellan was dealt the loss, despite starting his outing strong with only one hit allowed over his first two innings of work. Starter Jared Gonzalez went five innings and allowed two runs on six hits.

UWF begins GSC Tournament action on Saturday at 1:30 with its first game against North Alabama in Cleveland, Mississippi. Pool play concludes with a pair of 8:30 p.m. contests, first with West Alabama on Sunday and Mississippi College on Monday.
