Men's Soccer Opens GSC Play in Alabama

Argonauts Away to West Alabama on Friday, Alabama Huntsville on Sunday

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of West Florida men's soccer will face two away battles over the weekend against conference opponents University of West Alabama and University of Alabama Huntsville. After a week of rest due to a cancellation against Rollins, the Argonauts will play Friday at West Alabama at 7:30 pm and then on Sunday at Alabama Huntsville 3:30 pm.
 
OVERTIME WIN
The Argonauts last played Flagler in a home match in which UWF battled back from a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 in overtime with two goals from Rafael Godoi being the difference.
 
GSC HISTORY
Overall the Argonauts are 95-30-13 in the GSC with a .736 winning percentage after the 2016 season. UWF has the winningest program history in the GSC, and will look to improve on last seasons close second in the GSC final to West Alabama, which was decided by a penalty shootout. After the last year's penalty shootout loss to West Alabama the Argonauts will look for revenge this Friday in Livingston, Alabama.
 
SCOUTING
West Alabama was picked to finish first in the 2017 GSC preseason coaches' poll with 93 votes. West Alabama defenders Jack Shields and Jamie Cox were named to the 2017 Preseason All-GSC Team along with midfielders Harrison Roberts and Liam Ireland. West Alabama has gone 2-1 so far in their 2017 season with their only loss coming to Lynn 3-0. Alabama-Huntsville was picked sixth in the GSC preseason coaches' poll. Alabama-Huntsville's Jordan Wright was named to the 2017 Preseason All-GSC Team. Alabama Huntsville has an overall record of 1-3 in 2017, although they knocked off No. 20 Florida Tech 2-1 in their only win thus far.
