Argos Open Conference Play Tuesday vs. Montevallo

Team looks to continue five-match win streak in GSC opener

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida volleyball team will open GSC play Tuesday, September 19th at 7 pm vs. Montevallo in the UWF Field House. The team has won 5 straight matches and 12 of their last 14 sets. Live stats and video will be available for the match at goargos.com/live.

STARTING GSC PLAY
* UWF (8-4) welcomes Montevallo to open GSC play Tuesday at 7 pm. The match is the first of sixteen GSC contests the team will play this year and the first of eight the UWF Field House will host.
* Since Melissa Wolter took over the UWF volleyball program prior to the 2003 season, West Florida has been nearly unstoppable in GSC play, owning a 168-24 record... Last year the Argonauts went 17-3 in GSC action... UWF currently has a 61-match winning streak during regular season home games against conference opponents... The last loss for UWF in a GSC regular season home game came against North Alabama on October 24, 2009... UWF won six consecutive GSC Championships from 2008-2013... UWF currently owns the longest active streak of 20-win seasons in the GSC, which currently stands at 13 (not including 2004 season shortened by Hurricane Ivan)... Valdosta State and North Alabama are tied for the second longest active streak of 20-win seasons in the GSC at three... UWF has reached 11-consecutive NCAA South Regional Tournaments.

ABOUT LAST WEEKEND
* The Argos went 4-0 at the Carr Racop Invitational over the weekend, defeating Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western, both by finals of 3-1, on Friday. The team swept 6 straight sets on Sunday vs. Newman and host Arkansas - Fort Smith to finish the tournament 4-0.
* Rachel Neblett, who hit over .400 in every match and totaled 66 kills Friday and Saturday, was named tournament MVP. Neblett earned her 2nd GSC Offensive Player of the Week Award of the season (3rd of her career) as a result of her performance at the Carr Racop. Courtney Markes and Monique StCyr were also named to the All-Carr Racop tournament team. Markes racked up 37 kills and 45 digs in 4 matches. StCyr finished the weekend with 183 assists.

SCOUTING MONTEVALLO
* Montevallo is 4-4 on the season, scoring wins over Chowan, Belmont Abbey and Miles as part of a 3-1 start… The team has gone 1-3 since… They were swept by Valdosta State in their 1st GSC match September 15 3-0… Reigning Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year Kristy Bohan was a preseason All-Gulf South Conference selection… Bohan captured a spate of honors last season. She was named a Division II All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. She was the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Player of the Year and a first team All-Region selection by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association... Brie Blume currently ranks 17th in NCAA Div. II and leads the GSC with 0.68 service aces per set…Bohan ranks 5th with 0.50… Bohan is tied for 9th with 0.75 blocks per set… Harley Masoner currently ranks 4th in the GSC with 8.29 assists per set… Michaela Henderson ranks 8th with 4.34 digs per set...The Argos are 17-4 all time against Montevallo… UWF has won 15 straight matches vs. Montevallo and has not lost a match at home (9-1) vs. Montevallo since 2001.

* Rachel Neblett ranks 1st in the GSC (13th NCAA Div. II) with a hitting percentage of .413. Caleigh Morrison ranks 7th with a hitting percentage of .316.
