Ice Cold Shooting Spells UWF in 87-63 Loss at #8 Union

UWF will return to action at Christian Brothers on Monday

JACKSON, Tenn. – The UWF women's basketball team had its second-lowest shooting game of the season and couldn't overcome a hot-shooting eighth-ranked Union squad in an 87-63 loss at Fred DeLay Gymnasium Saturday night.

UWF (10-5, 5-3 Gulf South) shot just 24 percent and gave up 42 points in the paint and 17 points off 15 turnovers.

Imani Mulmore was the lone Argo in double figures, scoring 11 on 4-of-7 shooting. Belle Bistrow, Shami Goodman and Halee Nieman all had nine. Bistrow and Goodman made three 3-pointers apiece, while Nieman added 13 rebounds.

The Argonauts trailed 33-25 at the half. UWF was just 24 percent in the opening 20 minutes and was 6-of-13 at the free throw line. They rebounded to make 11-of-12 after the break but still struggled to make just 38 percent from the floor.

Union (15-1, 8-0) came into the game averaging 13 made 3-pointers per game. UWF held them to just eight, but the Lady Bulldogs were 5-of-10 in the second half, including 3-of-6 in the third quarter that aided in extending the halftime lead to 17.

UWF closed to within 50-43 late in the third, but Union answered with a 12-0 run before the end of the quarter.

Jada Perkins was 11-of-16 for a game-high 27 points, while Chelsey Shumpert matched her season average with 25 points. Sara Lytle had all 15 of her points in the second half, as she played just three minutes early before picking up two fouls.

Union shot 52 percent in the game and 67 percent after the intermission.

UWF is scheduled to play at Christian Brothers in Memphis on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. Be sure to follow @GoArgos on twitter and check GoArgos.com for any schedule updates as a result of the winter weather that has hit Western Tennessee this week.
