PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida volleyball team stretched its lead in the Gulf South Conference standings to two games with a 3-1 win over West Alabama on Saturday evening. UWF (20-7, 12-1 GSC) was dominant defensively, picking up 11 blocks and holding UWA (18-8, 10-3 GSC) to a .121 attack percentage for the match.

The Argonauts were led defensively by Caleigh Morrison, who had six blocks, and Jordyn Poppen and Nadine Williams, who each had three, while Logan Kael, Taylor Vaneekeren, and Brogan Wallin each had double-digit digs. Additionally, Vaneekeren (19) and Wallin (15) combined for 34 assists.

UWF had no trouble with the Tigers in the first set, winning 25-13, hitting .481, and holding UWA to a .135 attack percentage. Poppen had 4 of her team-high 13 kills in the set, while Makila York added three on five attacks. Poppen has now had double-digit kills in the last three matches and in 19 of the 6 she has played in this year.

The second next two sets would go back and forth, with the teams splitting 25-23 wins. The UWF offense cooled off in the second set but picked right back up in the third, as the Argonauts tallied 14 kills and hit .333. It was Poppen and Morrison leading the way in the third frame, totaling 9 kills on just 14 attacks.

The Argonauts finished off the match easily in the fourth, winning 25-19 behind three kills from Poppen and five team blocks, while holding UWA to a negative attack percentage, at -.030. UWF used three rallies of four-plus points, beginning with one at the start of the set to take a quick 4-0 lead. The last of those came toward the end of the set, when UWF stretched a 19-15 lead to 22-15 and sealed the match.
