BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UWF took home ten Gulf South Conference Postseason Awards this year, earning Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Four First Team All-GSC awards, and Three Second Team All-GSC awards.
Goalkeeper
Esthefanny Barreras was named the GSC Player of the Year and earned First Team All-GSC. Barreras has earned five Defender of the Week Awards this season for the Gulf South Conference. She is the conference leader in Goals Against Average (.320), Save Percentage (.886), and Total Shutouts (7). Barreras also ranks second in the GSC in Shutouts Per Game with (.412). The Goalkeeper ranks 9th in Goals Against Average and 11th in Save Percentage for all of Division Two. In seventeen games this season Barreras has 39 saves, and has only allowed five total goals. She has started all seventeen of the games this year and hasn't let up more than one goal to an opposing team all season.
Freshman
Peyton Peffers was named the GSC Freshman of the Year and earned First Team All-GSC. Peffers has earned two Freshman of the Week Awards, and one Player of the Week Award this season for the Gulf South Conference. She was also named the United Soccer Coaches Organization Division Two Player of the Week after her performances against Auburn-Montgomery and Montevallo. Peffers scored four goals over the weekend and had an assist. She is the currently the conference leader in Game-Winning Goals with six total, and is ranked fifth in the GSC in Goals Scored with ten. In seventeen games this season Peffers is averaging 2.18 Shots Per Game, 0.59 Goals Per Game, 0.12 Assists Per Game, and 1.29 Points Per Game.
Midfielder
Jessica Quixley and Defender
Celine Rumpf earned All-GSC First Team Honors as well.
Quixley has eight goals and two assists this year in 1,413 minutes played. In seventeen games played Quixley is averaging 3.53 Shots Per Game, 0.53 Goals Per Game, 0.12 Assists Per Game, and 1.18 Points Per Game.
Rumpf has scored two goals and recorded three assists this season. She plays a key role for the UWF defense that is holding opponents to just (0.47) Goals Per Game, and has only allowed eight goals all season.
Forward
Grace Busby, Midfielder
Victoria Swift, and Defender
Sam Waarum received All-GSC Second Team Honors.
Busby earned one Player of the Week award for the Gulf South Conference this season, after her performances against Union and Christian Brothers when she scored three goals over the weekend. In the Gulf South Conference Busby is ranked fourth in Average Points Per Game (1.47), fifth in Average Assists Per Game (.412), tied for sixth in Game-Winning Goals (3), tied for seventh in Total Goals Scored (9), and eleventh in Average Shots Per Game (2.82). She is averaging 2.82 Shots Per Game, 0.53 Goals Per Game, 0.41 Assists Per Game, 1.47 Points Per Game in seventeen games.
Swift has scored two goals along with five assists this season in 1,143 minutes played. She is tied for ninth in the conference for Total Assists with five. Swift is averaging 1.71 Shots Per Game, 0.12 Goals Per Game, 0.29 Assists Per Game, and 0.53 Points Per Game.
Waarum has four goals and ten assists in 984 minutes played this season. She is a part of a UWF defense that has given up the least amount of corner kicks to opponents (30 total). Waarum is currently the GSC leader in Total Assists (10), and is averaging 0.59 Assists Per Game.
West Florida will host Christian Brothers University at 3:30pm CT on Tuesday at the UWF Soccer Complex for the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament. UWF beat Christian Brothers in an overtime thriller, earlier in the season 2-1. The Buccaneers are 8-6-2 overall, and 7-5-1 in conference play this season.
