PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida is now 18-0 on the season, after their shutout win against Christian Brothers in the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament at the UWF Soccer Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The No. 2 ranked and top-seeded Argonauts won by a final score of 2-0, thanks to a huge performance from sophomore midfielder
Jessica Quixley, who was responsible for both of the goals in today's match. The win means that the Argos will advance to the Gulf South Conference Tournament Semifinals this Friday.
GAME STATS: Jessica Quixley gave the Argos the lead with a penalty kick goal in the 40th minute. She wasn't done yet though as she scored again in the 57th minute off a free kick strike from just outside the box. Quixley has ten goals now and two assists on the season.
Esthefanny Barreras picked up her ninth shutout of the year in today's victory. She had two saves on the only two shots she faced on goal. West Florida outshot CBU 27-11. UWF had a total of thirteen corner kicks, while the Argos' defense held the Lady Bucs to five.
NEXT UP: The Argonauts will head to Montgomery, Alabama for their next match on Friday at 2:30 p.m. UWF will face fourth-seeded West Alabama at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex.
