VALDOSTA, GA. – The No.19 UWF volleyball team (22-7, 14-1 GSC) defeated Valdosta State (14-16, 9-5 GSC) 3-1 this evening in at their home court. The Argos hit a .273 compared to the Blazers .061.
Senior Mackenzie Chrisman and Junior, Jordyn Poppen, led all players with 11 kills for the Argos. Chrisman went 11 for 22 with two errors hitting a .409. Poppen went 11-28 with no errors hitting a .393. Chrisman had her second double-double of the season tonight with 11 kills and 11 blocks. Redshirt Junior, Brogan Wallin, also had a double-double tonight with 24 assists and 11 digs.
The Argos came out on fire in the first, hitting .406 en route to a 25-16 decision. UWF never let go of the lead and only built on what they were doing. The Argos went of two, four point runs and three, three point runs giving them plenty of chances to build their cushion in set one.
UWF fought in the second set, but had a few errors that didn't benefit the Argos in the middle of the set that allowed VSU to take the set 25-22.
The third set saw more offensive power with 11 kills backed highly by the Argo's defense. A 5-0 run at the end gave UWF game point. VSU fought back a couple of points before UWF closed out the set 25-21.
The Argonaut defense came up big in the fourth, putting down four blocks while building a 19-10 lead and gaining momentum. UWF won the match with a 25-9 in the final set and won the match 3-1 overall.
West Florida's defense was led by Logan Kael with 17 digs followed by both Ashton Marshall and Wallin with 11 digs. Chrisman owned the net with 11 blocks followed by Poppen with eight blocks, two solo. UWF finished with 17 blocks and held VSU to a .061 attack pct. Katie McInnis led the Wolves with 11 kills.
UWF has one more regular season match before the GSC Tournament. The Argos will be traveling to Auburn Montgomery this Saturday, November 3rd to face the Warhawks at 1:00 PM.
