UWF Men's Soccer Scores Five On The Way To Fifth Conference Win

Argos stay unbeaten in conference play with shutout of Shorter

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF men's soccer remained unbeaten in conference play with a convincing 5-0 victory over Shorter Sunday afternoon. The shutout was the second straight and the fifth overall this season for the Argo defense.

For the second time in as many Sunday matches, five UWF players notched goals. The Argos also posted five one week ago at Montevallo. Chandler Castleman opened the scoring with a strike just 4:24 into the match. Kameron Bethell added a goal less than two minutes later on a volley off a feed by Ed Chappe. Chappe scored himself on a free kick just outside the box in the 22nd minute to build the lead to 3-0.

Sean Hoffstatter, the GSC's leader in goals and points, helped UWF seal the game with a goal inside the first two minutes of the second half. The strike was his 11th of the season. Gavin Gillies punched in a header in the match's waning moments off a cross from Marko Tomic to put an exclamation point on the victory.

The Argos outshot the Hawks 21-7 (9-5 on goal). Jacob Murray made five saves in the game, including a stop on a penalty kick by Val Evans 17 minutes into the first half that preserved the momentum for the Argos.

UWF has now posted shutouts in five different matches this season. The Argo defense has allowed five goals in five conference games. Four of the team's five shutouts have come at home this season. Shorter (0-12-0, 0-7-0 GSC) managed just two shots in the second half.

The Argos (7-2-2, 5-0-1 GSC) will remain in Pensacola to welcome West Alabama (5-4-2, 3-2-1 GSC) Friday at 7:30 p.m. A live stream of the game will be available at goargos.com/live.
