West Florida Falls in Overtime to Lee in the South Region Semifinals

Argos Finish the Year 20-1

PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Lee University on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 1-0 in the NCAA Tournament. The Argos finish their season with an overall record of 20-1, marking the fifth time in program history that UWF has recorded 20 win seasons.
 
GAME STATS: For the first time this season the Argonauts were outshot in the first half 8-7 by Lee University. In the second half UWF returned to their aggressive style, dominating time of possession, and outshooting the Flames 9-4. Both teams had their share of opportunities in the match, but both Goalkeepers made stellar saves to keep their teams in it.
 
First Team All-GSC Forward Mia Hollingsworth scored in the 92nd minute off of a shot just outside the box in overtime to give the Flames the victory. The goal was Hollngsworth's 13th of the season.
 
The Argos took a total of eight corner kicks, while allowing the Flames to only take two corners. Goalkeeper Esthefanny Barreras had six saves in the match, with a couple of the shots being one on one opportunities for the Flames.
 
UWF has won at least 15 games in 12 out of the past 14 seasons. The Argonauts also won their 11th Gulf South Conference Championship this year, defeating Montevallo 1-0 in Montgomery, Alabama on November 4th.
