No. 2 UWF Faces off Against West Alabama in GSC Semifinals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – West Florida plays West Alabama at 2:30pm CT on Friday at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex in Montgomery, Alabama for the second round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament. UWF shutout Christian Brothers University in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday by a final score of 2-0 at the UWF Soccer Complex. The Argonauts defeated West Alabama earlier this season 3-1, scoring all three goals in the second half of the match.
 
The Tigers are 12-5-1 overall, and 9-4 in conference play this season. West Alabama beat the five seed Valdosta State 2-0 at Livingston, Alabama on Tuesday in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
 
This game will feature both GSC Player of the Year Award winners in UWF Goalkeeper Esthefanny Barreras, and UWA Forward TeMia Pride. West Florida took home nine other GSC Postseason Awards this week: Coach of the Year- Joe Bartlinski, Freshman of the Year- Peyton Peffers, First Team Honors- Peyton Peffers, Esthefanny Barreras, Celine Rumpf, and Jessica Quixley, Second Team Honors- Grace Busby, Victoria Swift, and Sam Waarum. West Alabama had two other players receive awards: Aleah Headley and Anele Komani were named to the GSC First Team.
 
UWA has two players that are leading in statistical categories, TeMia Pride and Ellie McKenzie. Pride is the conference leader in Average Shots Per Game (5.17), Total Shots (93), Average Points Per Game (2.22), Total Points (40), Average Goals Per Game (1.00), and Total Goals Scored (18). McKenzie is the Gulf South Conference leader in Average Assists Per Game (.625) and tied with UWF Senior Sam Waarum for the lead in Total Assists (10).
 
The winner of this match will face the winner of #3 Lee University and #7 Montevallo on Sunday in Montgomery, Alabama. Montevallo is coming off of an upset victory against Mississippi College in the opening round of the tournament. UWF defeated Lee University 1-0 and Montevallo 3-0 earlier this season.
