The UWF women's basketball team opens Gulf South Conference play Thursday night with a matchup against Christian Brothers at 5:30 p.m. at the UWF Field House.
UWF is under the direction of seventh-year head coachÂ
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton. The 1996 North Carolina graduate has a 112-71 record at UWF, which includes one Elite Eight and three NCAA Tournaments in the last five seasons, along with two-consecutive GSC title game appearances.
GREEK CUP & ARGO AMBUSH NIGHT
* The night will be the opening of the Greek Cup with contests at both the women's and men's games for the UWF fraternities and sororities.
* It is also the Argo Ambush event for the basketball season, with all UWF student-athletes encouraged to attend and support their fellow athletes.
HALL POSTS TRIPLE DOUBLE, NAMED GSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Anna Hall was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week following her impressive performance last week.
* The senior transfer recorded the second triple-double in UWF women's basketball history and just the second in Division 2 this year, posting 19 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals in the Argonauts' 105-74 win over Spring Hill last Tuesday.
* Hall is averaging 10.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game. She currently ranks 22nd in the GSC in scoring, and in the top seven in rebounding, assists and steals entering this week's league-opening action.
LOTS OF OFFENSE IN 105-74 WIN OVER SPRING HILL

Toni Brewer had her fourth double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds, whileÂ
Belle Bistrow posted career-highs in both points and 3-pointers made with 20 and six, respectively. Her six triples were the third-highest top total in UWF history and tied for the ninth-most in a game.
* UWF shot 54 percent from the floor and was 11-of-20 from outside. The Argos were clicking offensively all game, finishing with 24 fast break points, 22 points off 17 SHC turnovers and 38 points in the paint.
* The Argonauts led 34-23 after the first quarter and 56-39 at halftime. UWF scored at least 21 points in all four quarters. The 105 points marked the first time in two seasons to eclipse the 100-point plateau.

Halee Nieman - have done their part thus far, combining for 72 percent of the scoring, 62 percent of the rebounding, 62 percent of the assists and 48 percent of the steals.
* Nieman leads the Gulf South Conference and ranks 38th in the NCAA with 20.6 ppg. She has a 32-point game against Georgia College, along with 25- and 20-point performances as well this season.
* Brewer is second on the team with 14.6 ppg while ranking ninth nationally with 13.2 rpg. Her four double-doubles are fifth in the country.
* Bistrow has done her part from outside, making 16-of-31 3-pointers and is third on the team with 12.6 ppg. Her .516 shooting pct. from outside is first in the GSC and her 3.2 triples per game are first in the league and 30th nationally.
* Hall has stepped into the point guard spot with little trouble in her first season on campus and posted 10.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game.
HULMIÂ HAS IMPRESSIVE START TO COLLEGE CAREERÂ

Fanny Hulmi has started all five games and is fifth on the team with 6.8 points per game and second on the squad with eight steals. She is also fourth with 4.6 rebounds per game. She had 12p/10r/2a/1s in the opener against Albany State for her first career double-double and followed that with 6p/4r/2a/2s/1b a day later against FVSU. At the UNG Nighthawk Classic, she sparked the third and fourth-quarter run that lifted UWF to a win over Georgia College with five steals.
REBOUNDING CONTINUES TO BE A STRONG POINT FOR UWF
* Over the past four seasons, the Argonauts have always been a strong rebounding team. This year is no different as UWF ranks second in Division 2 with 36 defensive rebounds per game and is sixth with a 15.0 rebound margin.
* The Argos have finished the year no lower than 22nd in rebound margin over the past four seasons.
UWF STRONG AT HOME UNDERÂ YELTON
* UWF has combined to win 60 games at the UWF Field House in 6-plus seasons under Stephanie Lawrence Yelton. The Argos are 54-16 in the last 5-plus years with a .768 winning pct. They have won at least 10 games four times in the last five years, going 10-2 in 2017-18 and 12-2 in 2016-17.
ABOUT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS
* CBU is 2-0 on the season with wins over LeMoyne-Owen and Lane. They have dropped a pair of exhibition games to Austin Peay and Tennessee-Martin. The Lady Bucs are averaging 72 points per game and shooting 36 percent from the floor. They are averaging 9.0 steals per game and forcing their opponents into 19.0 turnovers per game.
* Sophomore Kelsey Adkins leads te team with 20.0 points per game and is second with 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest.
* UWF is 11-5 all-time against CBU, including a 7-1 record in the last four seasons. The Argos had won seven-straight prior to last year's 59-51 loss in Memphis. UWF is 7-1 at home against the Lady Bucs.

* Union is 5-0 on the season and will play at Valdosta State on Thursday before heading the Pensacola on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs took over the No. 1 spot in the D2 Sports Information Director's Media Top 25 poll on Wednesday and are No. 2 in the WBCA Coaches Poll. Union won the GSC regular-season title and edged out the Argos in the tournament championship before winning the NCAA South Regional and advancing to the NCAA Elite Eight a year ago..
* Union is outscoring its opponents 87-58 so far, with recent wins over Rust (83-51) and Brescia (109-50). The Lady Bulldogs are shooting 48 percent from the field and averaging 9.4 3-pointers per game.
* Graduate transfer Morgan Martin leads the team with 17.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
*Â Union leads the series 10-4 since 2012. The Lady Bulldogs have a 4-2 record in games played in Pensacola. The Argos upset the No. 6 ranked Lady Bulldogs 80-78 in mid-February.

GSC FEATURES 20-GAME SCHEDULE
* The 2018-19 Gulf South Conference schedule will have teams play 20 league games for the second-consecutive season. Each of the 13 teams will play the other 12 once, with eight opponents in a home-and-away series.
* UWF's single-game opponents are its first four league games - Christian Brothers and Union at home and UAH and Lee on the road.Â
UWF PICKED THIRD IN GSCÂ PRESEASON COACHES POLL
* The UWF women's basketball team received one first-place vote and was picked to finish third in the Gulf South Conference preseason poll.Â
* UWF is coming off an 18-12 2017-18 campaign that saw the Argonauts go 11-9 in conference play before advancing to the GSC Championship game for the second-consecutive season.
* Defending regular-season and tournament champion Union was picked first with 10 first-place votes and 142 total points. Valdosta State received two first-place votes and 124 points, just three ahead of UWF's 121.
* Lee was fourth with 115 points, while West Georgia, West Alabama and Delta State were in a close group of fifth through seventh. Alabama Huntsville and Christian Brothers tied for eighth, followed by Mississippi College, Auburn-Montgomery, Shorter and Montevallo.
BREWER, NIEMAN NAMED PRESEASON ALL-GSC
* Seniors Toni Brewer and Halee Nieman were each named to the 5-person preseason All-GSC team in a vote by the league's head coaches.
* Brewer, who redshirted in 2017-18, was an Honorable Mention All-America selection as a junior in 2016-17 when she averaged 13.7 points and 11.4 rebounds per game, while registering 19 double-doubles. The Huntsville, Alabama native enters her final season with 1,149 points and 866 rebounds.
* Nieman was a Second Team All-GSC selection last year and is the second-leading returning scorer in the league with 14.7 points per game. She had five double-doubles and scored in double figures in 23 times.
YELTONÂ IN HER SEVENTHÂ SEASON IN PENSACOLA
* UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is in her seventh season at UWF in 2018-19 and has a 111-71 overall record. Her 111 wins rank third in program history.
* The Argonauts have five-consecutive winning seasons and have averaged 20.4 wins in those five years.
*Â The 102 wins from 2004-18 are the most in any 5-year stretch in program history.
YELTON NAMED TO WBCAÂ BOARD OF DIRECTORS
* UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton was voted onto the WBCA Board of Directors as one of two Division II representatives in the summer. The BOD has eight members of the Executive Committee and 21 board members from all levels of women's college basketball.
* This is her first stint with the board and adds to her resume that includes serving on the NCAA South Region Advisory Committee and as a voter on the WBCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.
FORMER DIVISION I HEAD COACHÂ JOINS UWF COACHING STAFF
* UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton added former Presbyterian head coach Todd Steelman to her staff in the off season. The Blue Hose won 25 games overall and 19 Big South Conference contests during his time at the Clinton, S.C. school.
* Former assistant coach LaQuanda Quick was named the head coach at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C.
