UWF Heads To Alabama Huntsville, Lee For Final Road Swing of 2018

Argos take on Chargers Saturday, Flames Sunday

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF men's basketball heads to Alabama Huntsville and Lee to wrap its first semester schedule. The Argos battle the Chargers in Huntsville at 4:00 p.m. Saturday and then head to Cleveland, Tenn. for a date with the Flames at 7:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. CT Monday.
 
UWF is looking to bounce back after two losses in Atlanta last weekend vs. Morehouse and Lane College. The 65-62 defeat vs. the Dragons Sunday was the team's third that has come by four points or less.
 
UWF (3-6, 0-2 GSC) returns home for a 4:00 p.m. tip vs. LaGrange College December 30. The team will take on Montevallo in its first home game of 2019 Jan. 5 at 4:00 p.m.
 
GULF SOUTH CONFERENCE LEADERS
* West Florida is currently fourth in the conference in opponent field goal percentage (.425).
* The Argonauts rank third in the conference in turnover margin at +2.33 per game.
* Senior Rashaan Benson ranks seventh in the GSC with 15.3 points per game.
* Graduate transfer Alassane Kah, senior Henri Ventoniemi and freshman Jon Brown are tied for ninth in the conference with 0.7 blocks per game. Brown is tenth with 1.4 steals per game.
 
UWF BACK AT HOME TO CLOSE 2018
* West Florida will close the calendar year at home Dec. 30 vs. LaGrange College. Tip is slated for 4:00 p.m. in the UWF Field House.
* The Argos host five home games in the month of January. The team will have played at home four times in the months of November and December combined.
 
BENSON POISED TO SURPASS MORGAN ON SCORING LIST
* Rashaan Benson stands at 1,031 points for his UWF career. He will have a chance to move into third place on the all-time scoring list soon. He needs 54 points to match Mike Morgan on the program's all-time career scoring list at 1,085.
* Benson surpassed Deondre Boynton (411) for first place on the all-time UWF career assists list in his first chance in front of the UWF home crowd this season, notching three assists Nov. 20 vs. Spring Hill to move to 412 for his career. He now stands at 421 in his career.
 
SCOUTING ALA. HUNTSVILLE

* The Chargers are 6-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The team has two straight one-possession wins, 80-78 over AUM Dec. 1 and 77-76 at Oakland City Dec. 11.
* UAH is fourth in the conference in field goal percentage at .384. The team is fourth in defensive field goal percentage at .425.
* The Chargers lead the conference in rebounding offense at 38.1 per game and is third in the GSC in rebounding defense at 31.6 per game.
* Sam Orf paces the Chargers at 17.4 points per game.
* UWF basketball is looking to snap an eight-game head-to-head losing streak vs. the Chargers and earn its first win in Huntsville since 2014.
 
SCOUTING LEE
* The Flames are are 4-5 overall and 2-0 in GSC play. The squad has won three straight, a streak that dates back to Nov. 29. The Flames meet No. 5 Valdosta State on Dec. 15.
* Lee is second in the GSC in scoring defense at 65.4 points per game. The Flames are fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (.495) and second in field goal defense (.393).
* Lee leads the conference in three-point defense (.310).
* The Flames are led by Ryan Montgomery, who currently stands at 11th in the conference with 13.8 points per game.
* UWF is 3-7 vs. Lee since 2013 and 0-5 vs. the Flames in Cleveland.
