MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The #5 UWF Women's Tennis (2-0) opens up a Gulf South Conference weekend trip with an overpowering 8-1 victory over Montevallo University (5-1).
In doubles play #12 pair Paula Coyos and Jordiana Lujan raced to an 8-1 victory over the Falcon's Emily Beatty and Bhargavi Kalaga, giving the Argos the first point of the competition.
Quick to follow were Ines Nicault and Valeria Mantilla, who overcame Alina Muntcanu and Maria Garcia 8-3 on court two. The Falcons refused to easily surrender after these two losses, and Amanda Gautreaux and Dorotea Hanzek managed to scrape past Isabella Calves and Lais Bicca 8-4 on court three.
Heading into singles UWF had a slight two match to one advantage after, and the Argos made quick work of the Falcons throughout their singles matches with wins on all six courts. First to finish was court two, with sophomore Ines Nicault overcoming Emily Beatty 6-1 6-4.
At court one, #11 Paula Coyos only dropped two games in her overpowering victory against #26 Alina Muntcanu. Junior Jordana Lujan finished moments later, clinching the match 6-2 6-1 over Bhargavi Kalaga.
Echevarria and Mixon both picked up straight set wins over their opponents, giving UWF a 7-1 edge. With all eyes left on court four, #36 ranked Diana Vlad bounced back from 1-6 1-2 deficiency to overcome Maria Garcia 1-6 6-3 7-5.
Huntsville, Alabama is next on the map for the Argos as they continue their second Gulf South Conference match up with Alabama-Huntsville (3-1). The matches are scheduled to start at 10am.
