UWF Women’s Tennis Remain Unbeaten Against West Alabama

No. 5 UWF best West Alabama 7-2

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The No. 5 UWF Women's Tennis Team (5-0) remain perfect as they conclude their GSC weekend with a solid 7-2 performance against West Alabama (2-2) at the Vaughn Tennis Complex on Monday afternoon.

After facing four opponents in just three days, the Argos add four more wins to their current 81 match winning streak in the Gulf South Conference.

"I was slightly concerned about the physical condition of a few of the players," assistant Coach Adam Drysdale explained when asked about playing four matches in less than 72 hours, "but in the end I knew they would fight just as hard to add their point for the team."

The UWA Tigers pounced early on in doubles as they took courts two and three in tight prosets. The lone doubles point came from No. 11 Paula Coyos and Jordana Lujan as they battled past Garza and Salom 9-7.

After a 1-2 setback from the doubles, it was business as usual for UWF as they went on to take the remaining six matches in straight sets. Each court displayed a dominant first, not dropping more than two games against their respective opponents. The second point added for the Argos came from court two as Ines Nicault cruised past Evelyn Moreno 6-1, 6-1.

Jordana Lujan secured another point as she defeated Julie Gonzalez-Rodriguez 6-2, 6-0. The clencher for this GSC contest came from court five as No. 36 Diana Vlad bested Imperia Martinez in a tight 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) battle. #11 Paula Coyos and Heater Mixon both overcame their opponents with identical scores of 6-2, 7-5.

"Once Coyos and Lujan got the Argos on the scoreboard," commented Drysdale, "I was very confident that the players could overcome the 1-2 deficit because of our experience from last season." In the 2017 season, the women's team came back in 9 out of 11 times when down 1-2 after the doubles matches.

The Argos will now rest up until the upcoming weekend, where they will travel to Orlando for a weekend filled with regionally ranked opponents including No. 17 Florida Southern College, Rollins College, and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
