DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The No. 5 ranked UWF Women's Tennis (7-0) continues an impressive 24 consecutive match winning streak with a sweep of Embry Riddle (2-4) 9-0 at the Crotty Tennis Center.
The late night match played the previous day at the USTA National Campus proved to have no effect on the Argos as they raced to a 3-0 lead after the doubles matches.
Out of the seven matches played so far, this is the fifth time that the UWF Women's Team has secured each of the doubles points. No. 12 ranked doubles pair Jordana Lujan and Paula Coyos only dropped a single game in their encounter with Turrillo and Bock on court one. On court two Ines Nicault and Valeria Mantilla rolled past their opponents 8-2. The last to round up the doubles matches was court three, where Diana Vlad and Samantha Echevarria owned an 8-3 win over Carter and Krvajica.
In singles No. 11 ranked Coyos continues her winning streak over her opponents on the top court, losing just two games against Turrillo. All remaining courts found themselves in intense battles against their Embry-Riddle opponents.
Despite these close contests, GSC Player of the Week Nicault clinched her second straight match of the weekend, dismissing Krvajica 6-3, 7-5. Although the end result had already been decided, the Eagles refused to easily go away without a fight.
On courts three and four, Heather Mixon and Diana Vlad were pushed to third set tiebreakers. Both Argos displayed confidence and persistency, and each came through with a victory. To conclude this regional challenge competition, Echevarria and Lais Bicca also prevailed over their opponents.
To wrap up another tennis-filled weekend for UWF, the Argos head over to Lakeland Florida to face off against No. 15 Florida Southern. Matches will begin at 9am CT at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
