PENSACOLA, Fla. - The UWF Men and Women's Tennis Teams kick-off their 2018 spring season this weekend with a trip to Valdosta, Ga. to compete against Palm Beach Atlantic and Lynn.
 Â
The Argonaut men's team enters the season after a strong fall that followed the program's fourth National Championship in the spring. Two returnees from the 9-man  championship roster include No. 7 ranked Serdar Bojadiev and No. 23 Alfonso Castellano. In the fall, Bojadiev reached the finals of the ITA South Region Championship, vaulting him into the top-10 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings. Castellano secured three victories in the regional tournament before falling to the eventual winner, St. Leo's Thomas Grinberg. Newcomer Nicolas LeCoutre is also in the single rankings, coming in at No. 40.
Â
For the women's squad, senior
Paula Coyos owned many notable wins, particularly against Diana Bogolii of Lynn University, to secure a place in the South Region finals. Coyos, the reigning GSC Player of the Year, fell just short to Sonja Larsen of Barry University, but came in at No. 11 in the national rankings. Along with Coyos, classmate
Valeria Mantilla and junior
Diana Vlad both appeared in the rankings, coming in at Nos. 31 and 36, respectively.Â
Â
Both teams will open play at 8 am Eastern Time on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Valdosta State University courts against Palm Beach Atlantic. On Sunday, the team s will face regional rival Lynn (#1 women; #6 men). Last year, the UWF men held off the Fighting Knights, 5-3, to secure a place in the NCAA Division II Sweet 16. The Lynn Women ended UWF's season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament en route to a national runner-up finish.
