PENSACOLA, Fla. – The visiting No. 42 Arkansas Tech University (7-3) were no match for the No. 2 UWF Women's Tennis (16-0) as the Argos executed an 8-1 result at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
This is the eleventh consecutive win over a ranked opponent this season, and the eighth time that the Argos have emerged victorious in all six singles matches.
To start off this non-conference match, No. 4 ranked duo of Jordana Lujan and Paula Coyos pounced Drebka and Ward on court one, only dropping a single game. On court three, Diana Vlad and Ines Nicault delivered a second point for the Argos after downing Harris and Schoch 8-3. The lone point the Techsters earned was from court two when Sanchez and Rowlands overcame Heather Mixon and Samantha Echevarria 8-4.
The Argos had to earn every point in the singles, and refused to allow their opponents any opportunity back into the match. Both GSC Player of the Week Nicault and No. 33 Lujan powered past their opponents on courts one and two, losing a total of three games in their combined matches. For the second time in a row, Lais Bicca clinched the deciding match on court six. After a tough 4-6 first set loss, the Brazilian native stormed past Bell without surrendering a single game in the final two sets. Vlad, Mixon, and Echevarria all concluded their matches with straight set victories over their opponents on courts three, four, and five.
The UWF Women's Tennis will have a day of rest and will return to the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Saturday to take on Lee University. First serve is scheduled for 10am.
