Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 2 UWF Women's Tennis (17-1, 6-0) suffers their first loss of the season after a 7-2 decision against No. 13 ranked Columbus State (13-1, 5-0) at the John W. Walden Tennis Center. The Cougars remain undefeated at home and boost their record to 13-1, while the Argos own a 17-1 record on the season.
After coming off of a huge upset over the previously top ranked Lynn University, the No. 12 Columbus State Cougars as a serious opponent, which was displayed on all three doubles courts. The home team quickly slated two points after picking up wins on courts two and three. No. 4 duo Jordana Lujan and Paula Coyos were battling on court one to gain a point for the Argos, but their valiant efforts were halted after dropping a tight 8-5 pro set to Paz and Paya.
For the first time this season, the Argos found themselves down 0-3 after the doubles matches. Coming into this match, the Women's Team knew the competition would be very high. On court two, GSC Player of the Week Ines Nicault added one point for the Argos after dominating Davico 6-2, 6-1. No. 33 Lujan also picked up another point on court three after a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Vitale. Despite this early push in the singles, the Cougars' 3-0 lead after doubles proved to be too much for the Argos to overcome. No. 19 Paya narrowed the gap after her victory on court four, and Tilgner handed Heather Mixon her first loss of the season to clinch the match. After the outcome was already decided, the Argos narrowly dropped the final two points on courts one and six.
The Argos will now return home to host multiple GSC matches. On Thursday, they will take on Valdosta State University at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex at 2pm CT.
