No. 2 UWF Silence Valdosta

UWF add another strong performance against Blazers

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 2 UWF Women's Tennis (18-1, 7-0) silenced GSC rivals Valdosta State (2-9, 2-4) with a score of 8-1 at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. The Argos now improved their GSC record to a perfect 7-0, while the Blazers dropped to 2-4.

To kick off this GSC match, Samantha Echevarria and Diana Vlad showed no mercy on court three, playing so well the duo went the match without dropping a game. On court two, Lais Bicca and Ines Nicault overcame a 1-4 deficiency and reeled off seven games in a row to increase the lead to 2-0. A slow start plagued No. 5 Lujan and Coyos, and despite a valiant push late in the pro set, they were unable to withstand the hands of Schmidt and Widdershoven.

After this 2-1 lead after the doubles, the Argos continued to demonstrate their competitive edge in the singles. After a strong 6-1 performance in the opening set, GSC Player of the Week No. 50 Nicault's opponent was forced to retire due to injury. On court four, Diana Vlad powered past Brynjarsdottir by only dropping a single game. For the clinch, Senior Echevarria won a perfect 12 out of 12 games against Vinge on court five. Both No. 7 Coyos and No. 72 Heather Mixon completed their matches with straight set victories, while No. 29 Lujan was pushed to a third set tiebreaker, where she also finished on top.

The Argos will next compete in a double header on Saturday against two GSC opponents. To begin the day, they will face Shorter University at 9am CT at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. After the conclusion of this match, they will head over to the Roger Scott Tennis Center and compete against No. 27 Mississippi College at 2:30pm CT.
