PENSACOLA, Fla.- The No. 2 UWF Women's Tennis (23-2, 11-0) dropped their second match of the season 7-2 to the previously top ranked Hawaii Pacific University (13-2) at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
The No. 5 Sharks snapped the Argos' six-match winning streak and improved to 6-2 in away matches.
The Sharks quickly snatched the opening two points from courts one and three. Despite appearing to be down and out at 0-5 down in their pro set to 8, Ines Nicault and Lais Bicca stormed back to even out the match at 6-6 with sneaky volley winners and powerful serving. Their efforts ran just short of the finish line, however, and they fell 9-7 to Kijasova and Meccico on court two.
This 0-3 deficit did not hinder the Argos' fight in the singles. Vlad added the first point for the team after downing Santos 6-0, 7-5. The Sharks then closed matches on courts one and two in straight sets solidifying their victory over the Argos. After the match was decided, Heather Mixon secured a second point for the team, narrowly escaping Kijasova 6-4 7-5.
UWF will wrap up their regular season on Sunday at noon with a contest against Xavier University. Paula Coyos, the sole senior, will be celebrated on Senior Day at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
